Break in speeds!
OK followed the break in thread and when I went for a ride this morning I checked, in 6th gear at 4000rpm (max allowed for break in) I was at 55 kmh / 35mph. Well needless to say in my world I have not been able to hold to this, I have veried the speed, not redlined it, always made sure to keep revs as low as possible until warmed up.
If you were to hold to the manufacturers recomendation you would be stuck riding in the city only for close to 20 hours before even heading out to the back roads!! And you would be left behind at most stop lights trying to keep it under 4K as you gear up!! Are these engines this fragile? I have had new cars, other new bikes, outboard motors, lawnmowers, snow blowwrs nothing is this stringent!! |

These engines are NOT fragile. I would ignore the break in routine and ride the bike like it was meant to be ridden. Change oil and filtre at 50 to 100 miles, again at 200 miles. When you get to 1000 miles, change to a good synthetic oil, and then change oil and filtre every 3000 miles. Do read the entries on this forum concerning oils. There is also a lot of info concerning break in on this forum. I would venture a guess, that if you read all the stuff on this forum and did all the DIY's, you could start your own shop. This forum is the mother lode of information.

OK super I have been riding it as I want to but with some caution during the first almost 500Km, letting it go more as I get more comfortable back in the saddle!
But help me with the oil change thing, why change it so soon, what exactly (I mean technically) does this do? 50 miles wow!! My last two new cars were rated 8,000 - 11,000kms between oil changes. Even my old 1988 VW Fox I would go 8,000k between old changes with no issue over 240,000km. Thanks for the insight! |

No I hadn't been there yet! Thanks!
This was the best commnet (not just coz of the author!!): You ever notice how you've never read a single post online about someone who believes they've hurt their bike by not breaking it in correctly? That's because that someone doesn't exist. There isn't a wrong way to do it. |
