Vacuum-Less Petcock
Does anyone know or have any good leads of a non-vacuum (always on) petcock that fits the ninja?
Some bikes can use ATV petcocks that don't have the vac thing. I'm probably going to have to buy a new petcock anyhow, i'd like to get rid of that feature as its just one more thing to clog, break, or leave me stranded on the side of the road. |

just take out the diaphragm from your petcock. now its a no-vac petcock. remember to close up the vac hole or gas will leak out once the diaphragm is gone.
keep in mind though... with only the float valves, it is easy for the ambient fuel pressure to overcome these and flood the carb which floods the cylinder which gets a bunch of gas in your oil and ****s everything up.

hmm i like where you're going with that. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be a smartass response or not... if you take the diaphragm out, duh, fuel will come out the vac side of the petcock...
but, if you take the spring out or otherwise defeat the sealing of the valve, it should work. cool! I like it. most of my bikes are way before people got too stupid to turn off their petcocks, so i'm not worried about that. still if i can find a reasonably priced solution that would get rid of jankiness.. i'm all ears. |

I cleaned out my petcock because crap was in it, and I thought "Why's this washer bent? I'll bend it back flat" and later found out it was a spring washer. I have since bent it back, but you're telling me I didn't have to go spelunking again and I could have just left it flat? Ugh.

Yamaha Raptor 660 petcock fits. Part # 5LP-24500-01-00. It's usually $25 to $30.

Be sure it's a real Yamaha not a chinese knock-off. The knockoffs don't last very long, tend to leak, and usually the outlet is 1/4 instead of 5/16.

Got the petcock in last night and it looks really nice.
I ordered from the link posted 'zoom zoom parts' it is pretty stiff to turn but that is pretty typical until they get some fuel in there to lube the rubber gasket. The casting quality, fit and finish are all top notch. At that price i'm sure its china knockoff, but its a very good one. It looks like these fit a lot of sportbikes, i might just buy an extra one for the next project that comes along. |

also, it does in fact appear to be 1/4" instead of 5/16"
or rather, its 7 mm instead of 8 mm. I use a urethane clear fuel line that is 7 mm and it stretches over the 8 mm barb with a little bit of heat so it wont be a problem. For people who have a problem with this, just buy the fuel filter that has a 1/4 and 5/16 stepped barb, hook the 1/4 barb to the petcock and the 5/16 barb to the carb. |

No leaks? No problems? Test rides fine? Just spend a lot more than 7 bucks for a new petcock, wish I found this sooner! Argghh

don't have it on the bike yet, so yeah i probably shouldn't have posted anything till i made sure it was working perfecto, gasket sealed up, etc.
It 'looks' nice from an initial inspection. I've seen some really crummy petcocks from china and this is a slightly-less-crummy one. Set it next to OE yamaha (which probably gets made in the same factory in china) and you wouldn't know the difference. and obviously, no vacuum feature so if you don't shut it off manually, it could flood your bike and garage with gas. |

Bought a cheap Chinese petcock seems to work alright, but it wasn't long enough to clear the bottom of the tank. I had to install it backwards. If I run out of gas I'll need to get off bike and reach under tank to access reserve. Reminder to myself don't run out of gas.
