Ninja 300 Production Number

I was curious if the last four or 5 digits of the serial represented what number it was off the assembly line. Anyone know? If it is I would be interested in what number your bike is off the assembly line.

Mine is 015XX

Edit:

So i just spoke with my dealer and there is two assembly line numbers. One for the engine and one for the bike as a whole. He also said its the last 6 Alpha\Numeric that make it up. He did not know what the Alpha part of it stood for so in my case the "A". Curious what you guys may already know in regards.

So for my bike I have the following.

Engine - A015XX
Bike - A015XX

I'd "X" out the last digit or two in your post. It's not a great idea to have a VIN number out there quite that publicly, and it can be quickly assumed if someone has the make/model + the last few numbers.

My last five numbers for the bike are 026XX, so if it is sequential, mine was just a wee bit behind yours.

Thanks for the heads up and also posting your assembly line #. I am curious what other countries such as Australia have for #s to see who got what first. I think they got theirs before us as did Europe.

Still not sure what someone would do with the VIN but this day and age you just never know.

Thanks again

With a VIN and a zip code, you can do all sorts of things on the CA DMV site, not sure about other states.

Yup this day and age there is just no telling. We do online tags and such so if you have a plate plus VIN you could get some fake tags I bet. Either way good catch on your part.

Now who got a bike in the first 500 or 1000 batch.

Well, here's how it has worked for the model numbers of past Ninjettes:
E-series
EX250E1 - 1986
EX250E2 - 1987

F-series
EX250F2 - 1988
EX250F3 - 1989
EX250F4 - 1990
EX250F5 - 1991 (*)
EX250F6 - 1992
EX250F7 - 1993
EX250F8 - 1994
EX250F9 - 1995
EX250F10 - 1996
EX250F11 - 1997
EX250F12 - 1998
EX250F13 - 1999
EX250F14 - 2000
EX250F15 - 2001
EX250F16 - 2002
EX250F17 - 2003
EX250F18 - 2004
EX250F19 - 2005
EX250F6F - 2006
EX250F7F - 2007

J-series
EX250J8F - 2008
EX250J9F - 2009
EX250JAF - 2010
EX250JBF - 2011
EX250JCF - 2012

Ninja 300
EX300ADF - 2013

The "A" in EX300A denotes it as the first Ninja 300, but will stay the same next year if they don't revise the bike significantly. The "D" is the year and it falls in yearly sequence with EX250J?F. Next year's 2014 EX300 will likely be EX300AEF.

*assumption; 1991 is strangely missing on Kawasaki's website

Got you updated in the list now. Have any idea of your showed up at the dealer before mine Alex? Was wild in that my dealer here in Texas got their two 300s 2 weeks before any other dealer at least in Texas. Once they did I had dealers calling me on the same day and time LOL.

There were years where "A" denoted the year (2010) and where "A" denoted the generation (2013). Because next year will likely be the same generation, the model number will retain the "A" until we have a new generation. 2014 will likely be EX300AEF. If, by some miracle, we get a new generation it will be EX300BEF. Despite having a clear idea of where the model numbers are headed, I don't know what the VINs are going to do because I don't know if the "A" there related to the generation or if they are incrementing it with the year like they have in other places. If they also have a D somewhere in the 2013 VINs, it may change to E and continue.

Yes, the A in this case means non-ABS. The ABS models will have a B in the same place.

So it's kinda like non-FI/FI being EX250J/EX250K. If we still have ABS and non-ABS in the next generation, they'd be EX300C (non-ABS) and EX300D (ABS), assuming that other countries didn't use those letters for variants we are unaware of, much like Canada's EX250H and Indonesia's EX250L. It makes me wonder if the EX250G and EX250I were FI versions of the EX250F and EX250H in some very limited markets! Edit: OK, I see that EX250G was a different bike with a lot in common with the EX250F sold in limited markets. Main changes where dual-disc brakes and a bigger front tire. It would not have had FI back then, as I understand things.

Anyway, according to ninja250.org, the EX250E was only available in 1986 in Japan, which leads me to believe that they got the F-series a year sooner with an EX250, which would explain what happened to the EX250F1.

You don't think it's interesting that the pregen may actually have had a longer and more impressive run than we thought? 1987-2007. Consider that it likely started selling in 1986 and while the 2008-model successor did not start in 2007 and you've got a 21-year history.

So the last 6 digits of the VIN are something like 003XX ? I ask because Cali seemed to not be one of the first ones to get their bikes. I just want to confirm since the VIN # is very low. Thanks in adavnce.

Could it be that CA-version bikes have a different prefix and, thus, start counting again from the beginning?

Possibly I guess the more Cali ones we get we will see. I thought the Auzzies would have the lowest VIN #s since they got theirs sooner I believe as well as other countries but that doesnt really represent what got on a boat first or not LOL.

If she can give me mor of the VIN I can put her in better order too. With so little of the VIN I see no risk of sharing at this point.

Question

I just went outside and confirmed that the VIN does look like you guys state. A00XXX... I believed the same thing that you guys did so I triple checked and had a friend check for me too and he confirmed. I'm not quite sure how my dealer got this bike, but this is the one they had for me. I know that they got another in and that VIN also read A00XXX.

The "A" before the last 5 digits of your VIN denotes that it is made in Thailand. That is all. See attached document from Kawi on this. Also, I wouldn't be scared to put the whole last 6 of the VIN out there on a forum, can't do anything with out all of the digits.

So is it A001XX or A003XX ?

Interesting production numbers and where they are all from.

Like what?

B/c there's millions of M/Cs parked at the houses, condos and apartment complexes in my area, with their VINs in full display on their frames (m/cs) or through their windshields (cars).

Are all those people (including me) in some kind of danger b/c our VIN and zip code are public information?

Danger is perhaps a strong word. But with that information, someone can successfully impersonate you on the DMV site. That could mean changing your registration status, submitting paperwork showing you sold the vehicle, and perhaps more use cases that don't come immediately to mind.

Seeing how easy it is to get someone else's VIN (by the methods you describe), and how easy it would be to guess a zip code (simply by the vehicle's current location), perhaps it shouldn't be used at all to authenticate access to the site. But nevertheless, it is.
