Does anyone have any experience splitting the case on an '04 zx10r? She's got some transmission issues and I didn't know if there were any special quirks I should look for on this one.

On an unrelated note I dropped my 250 and bought a liter bike.

pics? and no I can't help you, all of my parts are either a quarter or three tenths of the size you would need.

Size matters. I'll get some pics up soon. Along with the trans rebuild.

IIRC, 2nd gear was a common failure in the 1st-gen 10R's. Not sure what the actual problem or fix was, though.

Why would you do that (buy a liter bike)?

By "dropped" you mean crashed?

@CC Cowboy and @Alex

There is a rattling/chunky noise coming from the gearbox. Noise stays constant whether it is in neutral with the clutch in or out or in gear clutch in or out. Leads me to believe it is gearbox and not engine related as the noise does not change with RPM.

@jkv45 I bought a liter bike because the rear tire on the 250 wasn't big enough and didn't have enough power and I couldn't justify getting another one or a 300 at the same price I got this liter bike for.

didn't you break an R6? or am I confusing you with someone else, I could swear you were the one who posted that in an R6 build thread.

The orange looks sick on that zx-10r

I think it was her friend who totally trashed an R6 and it was done shortly after they had finished a lot of work on it during the winter months.

Did you get anywhere with this yet? even just taking off covers to look at clutch ect...

@subxero one gear on the input shaft had a few chipped teeth and the mate on the output shaft was missing 3 teeth.

Currently have the bike apart but having a hard time splitting the case. Just doesn't want to come apart. Makes it hard to do top speed runs, wheelies and stoppies in this condition.

@quarterliter By dropped I mean wrecked. INS totaled it and gave me a check big enough to get a liter bike. 4 times bigger = 4 times the fun, right?

@fishdip I resemble that remark. I tried a bigger hammer, heat, prying, spreading, 2 cars pulling opposite directions with a chain attached to each half. Everything has been taken apart. Getting...frustrated...

@Sirref the r6 was a friend's for clarification. He got a track prepped 07 r6 to replace it.

Stop with the toys and try using your bike to pull it apart.

All I have in my garage right now is race bikes. They don't have kickstands so that somehow makes that task impossible. I'm thinking one of the dowel pins may be rusted...?

kawi likes to hide bolts under things. you're probably missing one. behind an oil filter maybe? once all the bolts are out it should be pretty easy get it apart. don't force anything. and don't listen to fishdick

as for the clicking ... if it doesn't change with the revs in gear clutch out then it shouldn't be the trans or motor. maybe it's actually something electromechanical?

is it your turn signal clicking?

I was missing a bolt. How embarrassing. It came apart and now I'm waiting on a new transmission. Should be here Thursday or Friday. Should give me time to finish up the Ninja 500 race bike and try to get another bike in the shop.

Thanks dudes. I'll get y'all some pictures.

Got my new transmission today. Have to go pick up an f4i tonight and this weekend I have to pick up a Triumph 675 and an Aprilia Shiver.

I'll take some more pics of the stripped gears and this puppy going back together.

@alex.s @CycleCam303 are either of you rich?

Picked up the f4i tonight. Might not pick up the other two bikes until I sell one of these things. Either who the motor is back together and awaiting accessory pieces before it can go back in. Meanwhile the forks are upside down in a bucket draining.

Pretty excited on the progress of this thing. I really want to go ahead and get the other two bikes as 2 of the superfluous bikes in my garage are leaving (finally).
@Alex I feel like I need my own sub area for all of my other bike projects. Or like a build section. I like for people to have something to refer to visually if they start a similar project. I know I browse forums all the time to figure out what I need to do since most of the time I just make this stuff up as I go.

really? i ask people how much they bought or sold for all the time... though i always do it in pm.... this is the first time i've heard of someone saying its impolite. other money things sure. like income. but cost of toys? unless, has this become a business for you?

@alex.s bidness is the correct answer. A partner and myself are buying up bikes and reselling them. I'll give you the price you can pay to buy it but as a general rule I like to keep the purchase price to myself. Nothing against you guys but it creates good habits for me to stay black and white in business matters.

Like.. no one knows the prices for stuff

no one gets to ride the bikes except for me and my partner

etc...

No offense meant.
