2009 Build Thread

Hello everyone. Still new to this site. A couple of weeks ago, I bought my first street bike. I searched and searched for something that needed work so I could get into it real cheap. All I wanted the bike for was to commute back and forth to work and other places. I wanted something I could tinker with during the winter to keep me busy. Anyway, after looking on Craigslist, I took a chance on one that needed a lot of work. I picked this 2009 250r up for $550 and took it home.

The Previous owner hit a deer with it and layed it down. All the plastics were pretty bad, and the left fairing was in 4 separate pieces. The headlight was broke as well as the fairing. The clutch handle broke, turn signals gone, and the exhaust was scared pretty bad.
This is exactly what I wanted though.

Once I got the bike home, I started working on it the next day. The previous owner plastidipped the entire bike black and the wheels red. That stuff is a pain in the rear to get off. Fortunately, my son wanted to help and he loves peeling things for some reason. Worked out good for me. My original plans for this bike was to paint it white as I always wanted a white one. But after peeling, we noticed it was green and my son loves green. Also, when we peeled the tank, we noticed it said "special edition". So I think we are going to leave it green. While my son peeled, I went to work on the broken, bent, and road rashed stuff. I had to bend back the foot shift lever, and the brake pedal. I also took off the exhaust can and painted it with a high temp black. Looks much better so far.
