District 9. WOW. (WARNING: May contain Spoilers)

First of all let me say this movie looked alright in the previews. Nothing like completely amazing but it looked different then a lot of stuff nowadays so i was interested.

Saw it last night let me tell you, that movie was surprisingly amazing in my opinion. It had a little bit of everything. (really gory some parts, so i don't suggest you don't take young ones). If you are a fan of Half Life(not a fan by the way) I am pretty sure you will love this movie.

I think it is a must watch. This movie just set the bar for a lot of sci fi movies.

Cannot stress how surprised i was at this movie.

go, now

I also saw this last night. It was definitely one of the top movies I've seen lately.

Just saw it tonight, thought the preview looked okay so went in (for free) with basically low expectations. I was surprised....it was really good. Go see it.

This has been the best reviewed science fiction movie in a long time. I love it when something like this comes out of left field and blows everyone away. Wasn't this done by a first-time director who hadn't done anything but music videos until this? Hollywood gets SF so wrong most of the time I can't wait to check this out!

Best scene by far is when the suit comes to life and wastes all those thugs in the room.

I liked the movie because it took a different take on the "first contact" idea, and how humans would react to them living amongst us.

I think this is one of my favorite movies of all time. I loved the character growth on both sides. The sci-fi aspect was just the setting, as it should be, and got out of the way of the story. Sure, there are some big bangs and explosions of various sorts, but they seemed to fit in the story instead of just being there for their own sake.

I am a bit worried that the studios will try to make a sequel. I'm just not sure how one could be good in any way...

I also liked that the trailers gave no hint whatsoever about what the actual story was going to be about.

+1000000000

It's been a long time since a movie wasn't over hyped to death. Especially a sci-fi movie. I like going to a movie without a clue what's going to happen. I tend not to pre-judge as much, and thus enjoy it better.

The cinematography and the serious portions of the storyline were awesome.

The acting the the dialogue were atrocious!

At times I wasn't sure if they were trying to make it like an "Epic / Scary Movie" type deal. Vikas ****ing an alien doggy-style in the newspaper?!? Seriously!? Was it funny? Absolutely! Does it belong in a legit sci-fi flick? **** no! Voodoo skank licking an alien arm??! WTF?!

I enjoyed it. Was a good mix of documentary/camcorder film style and regular. It was funny, a little scary and gory, and had some good action. Definitely will continue to love movies that involve peter jackson.

Hay OP, can we get the title of the thread to contain <SPOILERS> ?

I don't know... I thought both these fit very well in the movie.

As far as destroying a persons reputation, xeno sex seemed a great way to deal with it. The paper looked like a Sun or Weekly News type paper, and they have that kind of thing in real life all the time.

As far as the crazy lady licking the arm, there's been lots of old mythologies that had the "eat your enemies" type beliefs. No stretch there at all, for me...

Except in the real world, the mainstream majority don't read those garbage rags. Someone's wife is really going to believe there husband screwed a hideous alien?! Come on! There are more likely ways for the government to destroy someones reputation so it is difficult for them to hide.

Well, I didn't see that as the ONLY way they were destroying his rep. I believe there was a news cast in the back ground of one of the scenes. Also, there are a LOT of people who DO read those magazines. Even if it's just the cover while checking out of a grocery store.

"Hm... Where have I seen that face before... OH! I saw him on the cover of People! While I was buying my 5 pounds of ice cream and vanilla frosting!" :P

EDIT: Also, they did mention towards the beginning of the movie that there were some people who DID do xeno sex, so it's not that far of a reach.

You may be right, though at the time, I took it to mean both ways... I specifically remember looking at my wife and we both when WTF? Why would they show that? What could it have to do with the plot? Then, later, we went "Ohhh..."

I won't argue either way. That's kind of my issue with those aspects of the plots. Anything that makes you step back and remember that you are in a theater, IMHO doesn't belong.

The movie was filled with SOOOOOOOO many holes, that flat out RUINED the movie... ugh i don't even want to identify them because it will just anger me :P.

As far as an orginal sci-fi film that Holywood has created, I think the First Matrix movie still have to be one of the best sci-fi movies released in a long time.

D9 had a good idea, but it failed misserabily on implementation.

The previews where the exact same thing as War of the Worlds. "OOOO ALIENS, YOU CAN'T SEE AND YOU CAN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE PLOT... BUT IT'LL BE EPIC".

Don't even get me started about the theaters themselfs.

I wish i pirated this movie, which i will do for the sequal and 3rd movie.
