Jet Kit Installation

Hello all,

I have a stock Ninja 250R and I am about to do mods that require the bike to be Re-jet. I am thinking of getting a slip-on/full (depending on how much $) and a K&N air filter. Yes, I know its not worth it for the 5 hp or so, and yes I can move to a 600...I know that already.

I am gonna be riding the 250 for at least 2-3 years if not more. I love the sound of after market exhausts and re-jetting would make the bike run better in low and mid ranges and be more user friendly.

NOW....the tech part..
I have no idea how to do the installation of jet kits or anything of that sort. Assuming I have the parts (exhaust, airfilter and a jet kit), who would be able to do this for me in Toronto and how much would this cost? I can install the exhaust and air-filter myself if it'd save me some money.

Another question is, yes, I know the jet kit is recommended but would it be okay if I just shim the needles in the carbs?

Please advise the n00b...Thanks

Kim is definitely the man to ask, though from what I've read you can also get a few HP out of the top end by adding more fuel at the top, which can only be done with larger jets.

I have been reading the DIYs over and over since I am about to do a huge project weekend (pod filter, finish my custom exhaust, install the jet kit, and paint the bike) and I am becoming much more confident about it than when I first started considering upgrades.
