The Ultimate Dash Clock Thread
How does the 250 not have a clock? I can't believe they didn't have a fuel gauge 'til '08. Anyway, I put this under farkles because although having a clock is desirable as a function, I want to see the best LOOKING setup you guys got. I don't want to see custom gauges with digital clocks that costs hundreds of dollars, and i dont want to see clocks that run off watch batteries that i need to stick on with double sided tape, and change the battery every 3 months. Lets see the best looking dash mounted clocks that run off the ignition power. It's ok if you had to cut, drill, screw, or bang it into place, the more original looking and permanent the better.

I've seen several people with watches wrapped around the front brake reservoir. Mine is an old wristwatch that I've attached to the keyring. Ghetto to be sure, but does what I need it to and the battery's still going strong 5 years later. The only actual bike-powered clock I've seen comes on the Daytona water temp gauge, but I seem to remember there being something weird about it.

Mines also a wrist watch, chopped off the straps and super glued it right under the ignition and above the massive bolt.

Get a waterproof version of (something like) this on ebay (search google 12v lcd clock) and hack it into your harness with a fuse. It was like $3 on ebay I think.
Only reason anyone is spending money making gauges is for gauges that don't exist on our bike. Once I'm done with that shift display gauge I can add more to it like engine water temp, speedometer, clock, etc. Nobody will want to hack 10 wires into their harness at once though to use it.

i like the watch idea too, especially if it looks like an rpm gauge. I would love to fit this under the windshield on the dash as far back into it as it will fit down in that dark area, i wonder with the windscreen covering it if it would be visible in daytime? Perhaps with a smoked windscreen? I'm amazed no one has made a fiberglass gauge pod to fit in that area.

One of our members was working on an ipod dash mount over the winter, but haven't seen an update in a while so dunno what happened to it. http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=34273 Like that watch, but don't know if it'll be bright enough in the daytime without making your windscreen completely opaque.

Also hard to see the time at a glance, but pretty interesting. I was looking for a clock for a while too. I just bought a Versys. It has one in the dash. Not exactly the cheapest mod, but very useful.

Probably not what you are looking for but I use a ram mount and my iphone. GPS + Time + Hud + simple dyno stuff + Music + Video Recording, its pretty convenient.

Hijack:
When I'm on my bike I think about riding, and that's about it. No music, no clocks, no distractions.... just the road, the wind and the song of 9,000 rpm.... Not only is it safer (I'm paying more attention to the task at hand), it's also more relaxing. I ride in part to get away from the tyranny of time. Now... on topic: What this means in practice is that I leave enough time to get where I'm going. Knowing I'm late while I'm riding won't get me there any faster. Therefore I do not have, want or need a dashboard clock. |

+1 on wrapping a waterproof watch around the front brake reservoir. easy to read, and only costs $5.
