what should sell for

wanting to sell my bike to upgrade
2009 kwi ninja 250 r/thunder blue
all stock
bike never dropped
bike looks how it did on the showroom floor
1500 miles only

i want the another ninja just 600cc.. need something bigger , i hate the feel of 2 up on the 250, just feels very weak, plus buddy has a 600 and i love riding his!

Now something useful -- I think the markets on used 250's have huge variation depending on where you are etc. I think the only relevant number is what they're selling for near you.

This. I can find a new-gen 250R around this area for about $2,500.
A friend of mine in Toronto can't find any below $4,500. Try checking craigslist or something, like Sean suggested.

Ask your dealer what he would give you for the bike as a trade in and then see if you can get more for it on the open market or go with the dealers offer.

So for someone in Toronto its worthwhile to buy from someone in AL even with the $500 and whatnot in shipping and you still come out $1500 cheaper.
