Anyone hear of or turn a 250r into a adenture dual sport bike? If so any pics and how did it get done. Seems like a great engine for it. Nice and lite to.

the front suspension would'nt work for that, not enough travel, same with the rear. too bulky to muscle around for offroad, just a bad idea in general. abandon ship matey

I'm sure it could be done, but it would take a lot of custom work. I'd try to drop some KLR forks on it and a hybrid rear suspension. Much easier to just drop some cash on a used KLR. One around me is about $2000, and it has 20k on it. Not bad.

Throw some saddle bags over it and go have fun! The ninjette, especially the pre-gens have such soft suspension that if you keep your speed in check (don't worry, the bike will let you know), you can go just about anywhere you won't need a skid-plate. The new-gens have a bit stiffer suspension, but that's never stopped me....

Sorry for resurrecting the post but... IIRC there are no knobby tires made in the size of the pregen 250's. Somebody (hopefully) correct me if I'm wrong because I was considering a similar project over the winter.

Any time I had to go on dirt roads, the Ninja felt like a slippery brick. If an adv bike is your goal, it would be more efficient to sell the Ninja and buy a KLX or something.

Listen to the newest episode of the Pace Podcast. There is a guy who is starting a dual sport oriented podcast, and he was saying about a riding buddy that has a Ninja 250 with knobbys on it.

I went to the local bike shop looking for knobbies for my 2006. The selection to fit 16" rims was rather meager. When I told him what I was putting them on he said "You can't do that!" I asked why, after a long silence he replied, "Because you can't!"

Good enough reason for me to do it.

I've got spare rims so I'm going to run knobbies for any snow we get this winter. Gotta calculate what sizes to run.

That's quite funny. Good luck with the project!

600r

in the link with that picture the 600r looks better as a dual sport than it does as a sportbike
