im getting ready to do this but want to clarify one thing; are the washers supposed to be able to fit inside the plastic piece attatched to the spring? i can see where the head of the needle will sit but my washers are just a tad too big. advice? im trying to get this damn thing back together for my wife and this will obviously hold me up lol.

The washer should fit on the needle with very little wiggle room. My washers that I had used were just a tad bigger than the head of the needle.

they fit the needle itself just fine, what im asking is does the washer itself need to be able to fit inside of the white'ish piece attatched to the spring? the part that originally makes contact with the head of the carb needle itself.

does the washers need to fit inbetween the 4 "fingers" i have red arrows drawn to? allowing the washers to sit down inside of the plastic piece pictured?

The answer to your question is "yes"

I found my washers at Lowe's in the specialty hardware section...
