Am i running lean?

So i put just the square kandn high flow air filter on and it seems to run at 1000 rpms at idle cold and then up to 1100 or 1200 warm which seems a little bit lower than usual. is it running lean and for the filter to function properly do i need to rejet?

shim or rejet. you're letting more air in so you leaned it out

Just changing the filter would not require rejet or shim the carbs.

Hell on my bike I only changed the air filter (pipercross) and my exhaust smelled rich, (been told these bikes run rich from stock) so I removed the snorkel... been told to shim the carbs doing this method (air filter & remove snorkel) but I haven't done that yet and mine seems to run just fine and the exhaust doesn't smell as much like gas. Plus I haven't noticed anything on the rich vs lean type threads happening on my bike, so not soo sure it's 'mandatory' to shim the carbs.

As the outside temp changes you may need to adjust the idle slightly. Cooler outside temps may make it idle a little lower.

When you rejet you will be adding more fuel, so you need to add more air. Removing the snorkel does this to a small degree. Depending on your main jet size, airbox removal is necessary. Main jet sizes of #105 or bigger will benefit better from pod filters.
You can check the jetting database to see what others have done. Having your bike Dyno Tuned wil help you get the most out of rejetting your bike.

Running lean will NOT make it idle lower. A high idle, taking awhile to idle down, or in extreme cases, won't stay running are symptoms of a lean condition.

Also these bikes, like every modern day bike run lean from the factory due to emissions laws and manufacturers desire to make the bikes pass the smog test. I have yet to meet a bike that didn't love me after a rejet or in FI models a PCIII.

My advice is check idle, plugs, and rejet just so your bike will run like it should've when it rolled off the assembly line
