Pressed Master Link Too Tight On New Chain
I ended up pressing the master link too tight on a new DID chain for my bike. This is the chain...
http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...ring-chain-kit It was just two o-rings on the inside, two on the outside with a side plate, and you press the side plate up to a certain point and that's it. Thing is, I went too far. The chain won't move as easily (or pretty much at all) at the master link now and the way the pins protrude it's clear it's much more than the rest of the links. So, is there anyway to loosen it and re do it? How do I go about this issue, I hope I don't have to buy a new chain just for this small mistake. |

Okay nvm, I have the chain tool kit and figured out how to loosen the master link by pushing the pins back.
The thing is, can I just push it back to where it needs to be instead of having the push it all the way out? I've read about people "redoing" the master link when they pushed it too hard, but what does exactly mean? Is it necessary for me to get a new master link now that I pushed this one in too tight? It seems like it's still full functional and that I can just loosen it with the tool to the proper adjustment and it would be fine, but I'm not sure. |

a new master link is like $10... I would just buy a new one if you have doubts. i dont think i would trust twice-bent rivets as much as just replacing it. $10 is worth the peace of mind

You could buy a reusable master link: no need to swage the ends.

Right, plenty of us use clip type master links. When installed correctly they're reliable. I usually clean mine well and put some 3M weather strip adhesive on the clip to add some insurance. Really only on the 250 because my daughter rides it. The others I usually don't bother.
