Front End Swap

I have a zx6e project I havent done much with in about a year, and I'm thinking about parting out or just slapping the motor in there finally and selling it. But something I was wondering was if I could swap the front end on my 03 250.

I have the whole front end, so handle bars, wheels, etc isnt a worry. But I've never done work on this area of the bike. My main concern is stem length and then getting the right bearings correct?

Thanks!

assuming you could adapt the steering stem and bearings to the frame on the 250, you would then run into the issue of clearance between the forks and the inside of the fairings, the clipons and the top the fairings, and other associated fitment issues (lines, cables, etc.) It can be done but perhaps would require a significant amount of work (and maybe dollars) to complete and have factory finish.

Not worries about front fairing since wife seems to like the naked/street fighter look. And she'll be the primary rider on this eventually.

I havent had a chance to look at my manual yet, but does it state the bearing sizes and the stem length in there?

The "All Balls" bearings website has an extensive guide for all kinds of swaps.

Thanks for that link! According to the site, these are the bearings I need for the conversion.

So what I really need to know is stem fitment I suppose. All the rest is workable.

All you need to know are the stock bearing sizes & the donor bike bearing sizes. The stem length can be measured as you have both to hand. Just stick a rod up the inside of the stem on the 250 to get a rough measure of its full length, then compare to the 600's !

Unfortunately I do not have both on hand. I'll have to see if I can get someone to measure one for me. At least the 250 one. I think I can pull my 6e one, the 250 I just got back on the road so I'm loath to pull it apart now. I need it rolling while I mess with my 6r.

But I think bearings are fine since the website up there had them listed.

I thought you said you had a a 250 & the 600 parts ? Just get a rod & push it up the inside of the stem on the 250 they are hollow ! Mark & measure where it stops this will be the stem length. Compare to the 600, if they are close it will be fine.

You can find the bearings inner & outer diameter + thickness online.
I put a KR1-S frontend on my ZZR, so one bearing is ZZR the other is KR1-S !
Once you have the bearing sizes, you can buy seperate one from a bearing provider !

I did do a search, but I was specifically looking for 6e or other traditional forks. The 636 link is helpful. I'll keep digging.

Idk if you will find that specific swap.. But there are a few swaps around. Some just in passing conversation, some in more detail. Best of luck

If you want a nice upgrade. 2008+ 250r front ends swap on easily. I actually installed ninja 300 springs in my pregen. Rides amazing!
