My streetfighter build.
Thought I'd post up the current progress of my streetfighter build. I plan to cut of the brackets on the tank as soon as I run out of gas, and I'm going to use the trail tech vapor for a gauge. Don't know if I'm going to keep the blinkers there yet, time will tell.

Back on topic, I assume you are gonna stick some clip ons on it Nickadolph? It would look way more aggressive. Overall great bike. Last futzed with by cerberusrex25; June 5th, 2011 at 01:28 PM. |

I'll be getting another mirror for the other side. I just didn't want to buy two if it wasn't going to work out.

@ the OP; are you gonna take off the mounting tabs on the tail plastics? those should go IMO if you're not running the other plastics. That looks really nice though dude. Just need some new headers. I'm a big fan of how the area p pipes look. I always thought they'd be good on a naked. |

I was going to keep the fender at first but it just looked too bulky next to the bare forks.

Maybe find some fork boot covers to go over the fork travel section. Should help fatten up their look for a front fender I'd pull the guard off the front of the muffler and trim the remaining tabs. Find some cheap muffler wrap for the headers back to the muffler. The tank should look good with out the tabs. Clip-ons and one tall round black mirror. keep us posted.

So I got the tank tabs cut off and I threw some drag bars on it instead of clipons because it only cost about $30 bucks for the same riding position. I'll post some pics up tomorrow after I do my wiring cleanup and ignition relocate

Yes! That would look pretty good imo. I would also like to suggest a custom bracket from good 'ol Home Depot to mount the turn signals to the forks next to the headlamp. You may need to solder in some more wire for the signals.

That looks sweet. It has always felt wierd to see the newgen's naked since mine's not. Kinda gives it that rugged look. Also, I agree with the ms paint location for the signals. Doesnt the previous location get in the way of your legs? I'd imagine it's exactly where my shins/knees would be.

The standard bar mounts would look fine. One on the left is typical, two is added visibility. I've always admired this guys bike. http://youtu.be/3IrtI2VYZHs I think his bar mounted mirrors are absolutly spot on for this bike. Maybe you could contact him for the source if you like them too. You could always BBQ black the headers too. just remember "high temp paint" if you decide to go that route I'd definitly get those signals mounted further up front. maybe near the side of the headlight if they can reach. I dont think the stock wires would though. They gotta be somewhere that gives the bike a uniform balanced look. Street fighters have a history... you could always fab some cheap brackets with cheap metal stock from home depot. or if your completely broke try aluminum cans cut and folded over with holes drilled where you need em. Good luck Nick. Keep us updated

I actually have ridden in the rain already without the fender, not bad at all. I do still have the stock fender in case I change my mind though.

Time for an update sorry for the long wait had some issues with the ignition. So I finally got my bars put on and lowered the front end about an inch. It's are much more aggressive stance than the stock ones at about 2-3 inches wider and 2-2.5 inches further forward. They are much more comfortable than stock too, I took a 2.5 hour ride today and felt better afterwards than I ever did with the stock bars. I deleted the ignition to allow me to mount the bars further forward and replaced it with two buttons under the rear seat. Next things I need to do are to pickup some mirrors, which will be the standard black round ones that mount to the lever perches. I also have some expanded steel to make a radiator guard out of, and then I'm going to look into moving the turn signals.

Being that the stock ignition has 7 wires divided into 3 groups there was no way to reduce it down to one button unless I were to use a dpst switch, which I couldn't find locally. A guy over on custom fighters gave me some help on which wires I could combine to get it down to two switches instead of four which is what I originally thought I would need.

I like the Herculiner. DO NOT USE THE PAINT ON BEDLINER FROM WALMART! I painted the bed of my flatbed truck with it and my pressure cleaning trailer with that crap... trying to remember name of it-edit... Duplicolor is the brand-. All that stuff has done is peeled off...and yes I did prep it all right. I once did paint and body for a living.....

I'll be keeping the levers, I have no problems with a little rash on the tip. The bedliner they sell at walmart is rustoleum last I checked.
