I bought it! Red 2011 ninja I got a rear fender delete with it (not on) and 2 qts Kawasaki oil and filter. Anyone know how to check the oil? Not the same as a car I see. I see the little gauge by the oil cap but I see no liquid in it.

Congrats on the new bike, was it repainted red? 2011 colors were green, white and black

there's 2 marks on the oil sight window, your oil should be somewhere in between those 2 marks.

Have someone hold the bike in upright position when checking oil (or rear stand, but rear stand makes the rear a bit high and oil w flow more toward front of window skewing visual results).

There's this wonderful, illuminating document called the "owners manual." You really ought to read it.

It is theoretically possible to hold the bike vertical by yourself and look at the sight glass at the same time. I've dropped bikes trying to do that. It's awkward as he!!.

Frankly the design of these things is STUPID and always has been. Why is it not possible to position the glass so that the oil level reads correctly when it's on the side stand?

This is like having a car with a hood that can't be propped open. "Have someone hold the hood up while you pull the dipstick and wipe it off." DUH. If you want people to check the oil routinely, then make it easy to check without needing extra equipment or another person.

My solution: Go to the hardware store and get one of those little mirrors on a telescoping rod. Sit on bike, use mirror to check oil.

Friday: Installed a FIAMM Freeway Blaster horn. Got started on wiring extra brake lights in the rear pods
Saturday: Finished wiring extra brake lights into the rear pods, shopped for parts
Sunday (today): Will put the tail light assembly back together. Maybe check tire pressure and lube the chain
Monday: I may finally get to ride!!!

I had a medical problem last week that got me a doctor's order to not lift things. I decided against riding to follow that order. I'm now back 100% and want to ride, so hopefully weather will be nice tomorrow for my commute to work.

Before I joined , had a full exhaust installed, led kit.
Today I started to work on the headlight. Want to try and use a HID kit for more visibility at night. It's not soo easy to change a bulb huh?
Thinking about blacking out the windscreen as well. My wife's black bike has it done and it looks great.

I've got no issues reading the sight glass and holding the bike. Maybe y'all just need stronger/longer arms. It is a pretty stupid design though, I've never liked sight glasses.

Today I rode and filled my tank up. I love the feeling of a cold tank against my legs.

Thought about riding.

Tried to hook up with a new member who happens to live in the next town.

Failed on both counts.

I'm pathetic.

(I did buy supplies for my upcoming valve adjustment, though.)

It really isn't so I ordered a filter that should come in this week :/ Although my bike hasn't been damaged by it (at least I think) so far. seems the screen kept most things out.

-----

Repainted my headers and primed my exhaust pipes. Figured out how to copy the Kawasaki black color. Flat black header paint with a nice, solid layer of header clear coat.

Repainted exhaust pipes and accidently scratched the paint in multiple places because I forgot to remove the bracket attached to the radiator. hurrr. Hope high temp clear coat is enough to cover them.

Rode to work and back. Some douche was following me right in the ass not he way there.

Also some guy in an SUV honked at me for not turning right on a yellow light when I could clearly see someone on the opposite side gunning it and turning left.

Ahhh, I love tailgaters. I either slow down to 10mph max or give them a "back off" hand gesture, depending on how they're driving.

Haha 10mph on the freeway would suck! But yes, I did give them a hand signal.

Is your valve cover paint matched with your tank? I've tossed the idea around of powdercoating the engine to match the bike if I get around to ever doing streetfighter/cafe racer build.

On another note:
I wiped down my chain and lubed it with some gear oil. I got to to use up all this gear oil until I switch to some PJ-1 Blue. I also some I have a tight spot in my chain which is wierd since this is a new chain. I wonder what the deal is.

Valve cover and sides of fins are normally unpainted on an EX250F.

Nope. The tank is actually just primed that off white color. It'll be white like the fender and grab handle after I shave it. I'm planning on just spraying the whole engine high gloss high temp.

Looked at my Ninja keys longingly as I grabbed the truck keys. I don't ride in thunderstorms

Also, got some Molex connectors in the mail, so I'll be cleaning up the turn signal connections. I'm also waiting for some free time to convert the front reflectors of my pregen into running lights.

Finally, I hate how my mac tries to correct 'pregen' into 'preen' every time.

Probably not a good idea. No visual leaks? Does it smoke or smell of burning oil?

Maybe start a new thread in the tech section.

I want to do the same with no-gloss but I have no idea where to start. Should I take off the clutch and stator covers when I spray them? How should I prep/mask the rest when I spray it?

I also want to do the frame, so the engine will likely get removed.

You can prep to your heart's content. I probably won't go through all the trouble. I guess I'd simple green the whole thing and make sure there's no oily spots, and maybe sand down the roughness on my clutch cover, and then just go at it. Afterwards I'll go over the fins with a sanding block to make them shiny again. But the engine won't get even close to the same treatment as the wheels. As for masking, painter's tape, newspaper and cardboard do the trick. It doesn't have to look pretty. It just has to block the stuff you don't want paint on. I don't worry so much about overspray on a 15 year old bike.
