Ride report: Cross country in Canada again on a CBR125

Anybody camp on a Ninja? Mike posted another excellent "Minimal Touring" ride report from his annual camping trip around Canada on a CBR125R.

I don't know, he had it bumped up to 149cc, practically overpowered for a trip like that at that point.

I am thinking about doing some road trips before summer is over!

I am putting my bikes into nice condition and getting my motorcycle license at last!

I am going to scope out some peoples camping getups on their 250s because I plan on taking mine.

Ninjette touring!

That's my trip report. The extra 24cc's over the CBR125R did come in handy. I find myself being drawn toward lighter-weight bikes. I got rid of my 2011 CBR250R because I just found it weighed too much for what it was. And I like bikes with a higher redline and sportier character. If Kawasaki could find a way to drop 60lbs off the Ninja300 - I think I'd have a new bike. Curious about the new Duke 390 and RC390.

How about 300lbs wet and about 28-29HP with clipons and a sporty character?

Nice. Looking for better fuel economy though. I missed out on a Kawasaki sponsored ride at our local dealer last month. Would have liked to try the Ninja 300.

Thanks NevadaWolf! Had a lot of fun on that ride. I'm taking off on a small displacement ride with a local rider tomorrow. He's riding a 2008 CBR125R and I'll be riding the CBR150R. We'll be taking the paved backroads to Dryden, ON - a total distance of about 300 miles. We'll be staying over-night there at a friends place - then returning on Thursday. Our host has an older 1987 EX250. I'll pass along a ride report of the baby Ninja when I get back on Thursday.

You're mean. LOL

That sounds like an epic ride. One of the "plans" (which may never go through) was to ride across the US to a friend in New Brunswick and then come back through Canada and just see the country. Figured that would be an awesome way to see the continent, especially if I could work it so where fall was just starting up there and catch up with it as I head south.

I've officially been bitten by the long distance bug. Most of my rides over the weekend at 300-400 miles and I'm steady pushing that further by trying to come up with some great tours. I just get a kick out of the looks on people's faces when they realize our little bikes are fully capable of being excellent touring bikes.

Have you planned this yet? If so - you'd be welcome to stay here overnight if your plans include riding the north shore of Lake Superior. I've hosted a few adventure riders. My sense is if you are now riding 300-400 miles in a day you're good to go. I don't like riding much more than that. If you want to create a trip report and take lots of photos and visit lots of places - to do the report justice - you really can't do many more miles than that each day.

No, no plans. Ran out of vacation time so the max I can do are 1000-1500 mile rides over the weekend.

But, if life ever presents the opportunity, I'll swing my route down your way to say howdy. I'm not so much a touristy type. I was maybe thinking going a 200 mile stretch, spending an hour wherever I ended up for touristy stuff, then back on the road to repeat in another 200 miles.

Just completed a ride report that involved sampling a 1987 Ninja 250. It was great! The trip covered almost 600 miles and involved an overnight stay. Ron (my riding buddy) used to own a ZZR250 as well. It's one of the few bikes that he wishes he could have back. You can read all about it here:

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=914838

Here are some photos to whet your small displacement bike appetite.

Thanks! To answer your questions. 1. Only if there's a fat chick on the back. 2. Only if there's a hot chick on the back. 3. I collect bear-proof sliding handles and this trash container had an incredibly sophisticated one.

They are the Ortlieb Dry Saddlebags - from Aerostitch. After using waterproof bags - I could never go back to rain covers.
