Is it normal for oil to increase a bit in the crankcase after an oil change?

I noticed that the oil has been slowly increasing in the crankcase (seen on the oil glass window). Please take a look at the pictures. I don't think this is normal. Can anyone confirm

Note: Each time pictures were taken right after riding, and letting the bike sit for 10 minutes before checking the oil level. The bike is parked at the same exact location each time pictures were taken.

Each time, the bike is completely vertical (balanced with just two fingers on the handlebar....front tire pointed forward).

4/11/2014 - Bike ridden for the first time after oil change (1,150 miles on the odometer)

4/14/2014 - Mileage unknown

4/19/2014 - 1,403 miles on the odometer

And no.....the crankcase does NOT smell like gasoline (it used to....but not after this latest oil change).

I would check the petcock. Mine was giving me a constant drip on my 09 250 in the run position. In theory this could add fluid to the crankcase.

Oil doesn't fill itself.

I think you may be over obsessing the oil level. As long as it's in between the marks on the sight glass and does not contain coolant or gas you're good.

The way I get my bike perfectly level is, I use a small level on the tank, and a small block of wood under the sidestand (that makes it level) and then I can brace the bike from the right side while checking the oil.

The balancing act method can make the oil level move a little bit if you're a little off in your position of trying to brace the bike and take a picture.

What he said^^^. Lean your bike to the right for 15 seconds and it will go up even higher.

Old oil clings to stuff, and more will flow slower down from the top of the head (assuming your bike is level or tipped to the right).

1,500 miles.

I can assure you the bike is not tilted at all. I put my camera by the oil glass. I'm squatting. I'm holding onto the bike at the throttle grip....with TWO fingers (my index and my thumb). The bike has to be pretty much vertical if I can hold it up with just two fingers, no?

Petcock not leaking at all. I took off the tank again tonight. I'm going to leave it for 24 hours. But so far, not a single drop of gas came out.

bro, slight turn in the forks and its crooked and off. sometimes there is more oil up in the head, other times less. as the oil degrades maybe it is more prone to settling lower than before. you are obsessing. if you want perfect results put it on a rear stand with spools and a front triple stand that way it can't be crooked, then check to make sure your floor is level by using a laser guided level on that. but then check that you don't have any stray magnetic fields running through the garage and check to make sure no solar flares are happening while measuring. might as well pull out the Geiger counter too.

you could also send a sample of the oil into an oil lab like blackstone and see if it has anything else in it magically.

Alex, do any of your bikes increase in oil in just 400 miles of riding after an oil change?

Maybe I am obsessing a bit.

However, I feel like I am justified to be a tad paranoid since I'm getting under 40mpg.

But you do bring up a good point. Maybe I'll send in an oil sample to get it analyzed!

I'll keep you guys updated.

Its 1 petrol, 2 coolant, 3 drain down illusion, 4 someone is smuggling packets of cocaine in your crankcase.

I just sent my oil to Blackstone Labs today. Oil was only in the bike for 700 miles. I'll post results here when I receive their report.
