How do you allergic riders deal with pollen season?

I road to work today and as soon as I got in the office my allergies started going crazy. Itchy eyes, runny nose, the works. I washed my face right away but it's still lingering a bit. How do you guys deal with the allergy season?

Half a tablet usually is enough to hold the symptoms at bay for me without feeling the drowsiness.

Otherwise, its a lightweight face mask or bandana to cover my mouth and nose to keep the pollen out. Helps also to dampen the cloth before putting it on, at least my lungs like it when I do that. Cool, mist air to breath and no nasties.

I spells good. I usually try to tough it out but it's getting pretty brutal this year. Zyrtec works well but it still messes with me some like Benadryl. I was thinking about getting some OTG ski googles and wearing a bandana over my my nose and mouth. Allergy medicine tends to slow my reaction time which is why I try to avoid it when riding or at work.

There are antihistamines that don't make you sleepy at all. Here in SA we have one called texa-ten. 10mg but it makes all the difference for me!!!

I usually don't ride.

My allergies are so bad that not even Claritin or Allegra works enough that I feel up to riding.

Zyrtec is the only thing that really knocks all of it out for me but it makes me a zombie at the same time. A may try to build up to it with smaller doses so I can get through the next 6 weeks.

The thing with me is that Claritin and Allegra will also pretty much knock me out. They're supposed to be non-drowsy, but that's not the case with me. I haven't tried Zyrtec, but it's pretty likely that it's going to be the same result.

I literally have two choices.

1. Take the medicine, and be knocked out, and maybe sneeze/sniffle once every hour or so
2. Don't take the medicine, and end up having to sneeze every 15 minutes, feel like **it, and still end up like a zombie because I couldn't sleep properly due to all the sneezing

i was on this one alergy medicine for awhile. you sprayed it up your nose. it was a stimulant and made me way too hyper. maybe if you use that, and one of the ones that make you drowsy, it will even out and they will combine effects

Is it possible in US to get cold-pressed Egyptian black cumin oil, if you get this then take each day one small spoon full and after normally 4 to 6 months you don't think about your allergy no more.
The normal procedure is to start with this in October and in spring you don't have any probs with your allergy.
Good luck and important to say that not everybody likes the taste.
PS: Forgot this is NO medicine since it is a pure product from nature!!!

Fortunately i dont have allergies but with the amount of pollution, dust & crap in the air here its getting very common to wear surgical masks while riding.

Walking Dead zombie to 28 days later rage zombie. I've tried it all except allergy shots which is probably what I need.

Claritin/loratadine won't make you tired, and it's the only anti-histamine commercial pilots can take. If your tired later in the day it's not from the drug. Your sleep habits are off, or else you drink a lot of sugary soft drinks and crash a few hours later. Im a pharmacist.

Masks and goggles will help a lot, but you need to still wash your face and exposed areas of skin and make sure any clothes you wear come off immediately. Pollen will cling to your clothes and be a constant irritant to you all day and you won't even know it.

Honey

Try some local honey, but make sure it is local. The mass produced stuff you get in the store isn't going to do anything. (Plus it may be from China) Since I started taking about a TBSP a day, on cinnamon bread with a little butter, my allergies have went down substantially. You will have to eat a little every day, for a few weeks before you will start noticing any effects.

Plus no side effects.

Give it a try, it's a different active ingredient, it may work it may not.

Otherwise try adjusting your dosage down, people can have different metabolic rates & it may be a case that the dosage that takes effect in the average person is an overdose for you.

If reducing the dose works I'd have a talk with the doctor, have them check if your liver function is normal. I'd also do that if you ever need to take anything that can have severe side effects

I had to look Allegra up, they really don't like telling their customers what's in it, everything here has the active ingredient on the front of the box.

EDIT:
Another quick search shows Loratadine is broken down by CYP3A4, which is inhibited by Bergamotin (my spelling may be off) a chemical in grapefruit & is present in their juice.

It may be pointless info, or may be what's causing your reaction...

Luckily, Allegra does come in a smaller dose for adults. I think Claritin does have a smaller dose, but it's for the children's formulation.

I thought allegra was the only medicine pilots could take. Also contrary to popular belief all antihistamines new and old generation cross the blood brain barrier.

And you're too big to take a child's dose

If it works at a lower dose there are multiple ways of doing it, get a pill cutter & find a generic that has a score line on it, get the kids dose tablet, hell if you have to get a pipette or syringe (no needle obviously) to measure the 1mg/ml liquid formulation & drink it from that.

The adult dose is 10mg, so that's 10ml of the liquid, Drinking it from a syringe/pipette is the easiest way to dial in a working dose that won't cause drowsiness, 5ml would be a reasonable starting point & work up or down in 1ml increments.
