Fishing
My father-in-law and I used to fish a lot before he passed away. I pretty much inherited every piece of fishing gear he ever owned. He taught me a trick to lure some fish in. We have these tiny lakes in the neighborhood that is stocked with fish. He would toss dog food into the lake and the fish would come up to feed.
Our only problem is our bait (normally hot dogs), would sink while the fish would stay on the surface. So I came up with an idea. I'll toss out some food to lure them in, and I will use a floating fly instead. This will make the fish think there is a spider on the water and try to eat it (or mistaken it for the food). I hope to catch more than I used to with this method. Anyone ever try that? I won't be using a fly reel since I don't need to throw the line out, I just need to drop it in the water and let it float in front of me. Think it will work?

My gramps used to fish a lot even when he started getting a little crazy. One of his friends took a pic of him holding a fish he caught then photoshopped it to make the fish HUGE! My grandpa thought the pic was real and would tell us the story of the biggest fish he ever caught. lol
Never been fishing though, and we just sold his boat

This should be done with bait that attracts the fish you want to catch. If you are going after bigger stuff (you usually do..) some sort of forage fish is good for those pre-feeding sessions. I really don't know about dog food. After a while you come with gear and toss no food. If you toss both free food and line a the same time you actually reduce your chances of the fish biting the hook because there are so many meals around. It might be a good idea to decide which fish you are after and check out more about the species' feeding habits and preferences to decide the strategy. |
