Question 95 ninja ecu/cdi
i managed to score a free 95 ninja from a neighbor that passed away about a year and a half ago.. this bike is in remarkable shape it needs a little tlc but it has less than 2700 miles on it... its been sitting in my storage for a year or so and today i had a set of keys made for it.. tomorrow im bringing it home and starting to try and get her running
when i picked it up he had pulled battery and bike had been sitting out for a month or so and with the seat and part of the ferring off some water had got into the ecu/cdi box i took it in and let it dry out.. I guess my main question is ... If the ecu was damaged and i cant get bike to fire will any year ecu work from 88-07 or is it a year specific part... Im exciting to get this going as it will ultimately be for my girlfriend as her first two wheeled bike..but i gotta say i cant wait to rip around on it a bit myself . were avid 3 wheeled atc riders>> here are a few pics of the bike |

They are year specific. But they are also weather proof. Just get it home. Pull the plots and test for spark . Cranking the engine without plugs will be good for it. My first consern is rust in the fuel rank and carb issues. Nice bike though.

Thanks for the response guys... A little update I got it home the tank has some nasty oil fuel but no rust supeisingly clean looking inside... Someone cut up air box so i took it out for now.. Hooked up all elecronics pulled plugs she has good strong spark on both cylinders... The carbs were horrible full old gas and possibly water.. I'm in the process of trying to clean em and decide if they are salvageable or just get a used set... And I found a hole I the intake tube between carb and cyl head... I don't think its supposed to be there looks like someone tried to repair with duct tape at one point......

Pics would be great. I have found pilot jets very difficult to get clean. Plus the original size is to small if the air box has been tampered with. If you take some photos of the carb and jets I can tell you if they are repairable.

I'll take some pics tonight .. I pulled carbs apart dropped all pieces in carb cleaner as well as the carb bodies everything seemed to clean up nicely blew out all passages with high pressure co2 .. I may just buy some new mains and local shop just to be sure.. My concern is the float needles one looks good the other is cruddy and the little center pin that flow presses is locked up... Also if I remember correctly I think they may have put some kind of putty in the bottom covering slotted head on air screw

While the carbs are off you should remove the tin covers on the idle screws. A drill with a sto will do nicely. Just make sure you can blow through the jets. And for needle and seat. Hook up a clean hose to the carb fuel inlet. Put the floats in place without the bowls. With the carbs upside down you should not be able to blow through the hose.

Here are a few pics after I cleaned it all up the idle screws didn't have metal caps but were filled with something resembling hot glue.. But that's now gone.. All I need is a couple needle for the floats and a set of rubber intake boots and ill freshen up plugs and put gas and try to get her running |
