[American Motorcyclist Association] - Ashland County Fairgrounds hosting vintage half

The 13-round AMA Vintage Dirt Track National Championship will make its stop for Round 9 at the Ashland County Fairgrounds in Ashland, Ohio, on Saturday, July 11, in conjunction with AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days. The fairgrounds is just a short drive from Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

"It's always great to see the crowd from AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days come out to support the racers and see how competitive these vintage machines still are," said Ken Saillant, AMA track racing manager. "The half-mile track at Ashland has given way to spectacular national-level races ranging from decades ago to today's racing. As in past years, fans are sure witness thrilling bar-to-bar racing action."

AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days Grand Marshal and AMA Hall of Famer David Aldana will race in the 60+ Vintage Open class, which he currently leads in season points. Bobby Hill, AMA Hall of Famer and last year's AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days co-grand marshal, also will be in attendance for the race. Hill was a member of the famed post-WWII era Indian Wrecking Crew.

Competitors at the AMA Vintage Dirt Track National Championship race machines dating from the '40s to the '90s. Modern support classes will run throughout the event, as well.

Practice begins at 4 p.m. Heat races start at 6:30 p.m., and the finals take place about 8:30 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at the track. Box seats are $25. Grandstand tickets are $20. Kids under 5 years old are free with each paying adult. Tickets for kids under 12 are $10.

The fairgrounds is at 2042 Claremont Avenue, Ashland, OH 44805.

For 2015, AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum. AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days is a fundraiser for the facility, which houses the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame and other thematic exhibits that celebrate motorcycling's heritage.

AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer David Aldana is the grand marshal for AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days this year. One of the most colorful personalities in racing, Aldana teamed with Mike Baldwin to win the prestigious Suzuka eight-hour endurance race in 1981 as a Honda factory rider. He also was one of the most versatile racers in history, competing in nearly every form of motorcycle racing, including motocross and speedway racing.

The museum was founded in 1990 to provide a permanent home to the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, which celebrates and preserves the rich tradition of motorcycling in America through the recognition of the sport's greatest heroes. Proceeds from AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days are donated to the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization tasked with funding the operation of the museum and Hall of Fame activities.

AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days includes North America's largest motorcycle swap meet with parts, bikes and memorabilia from all eras. Bike shows bring out examples of some of history's most beloved motorcycles, while stunt shows, such as the American Motor Drome Wall of Death, and demo rides of current production bikes keep attendees entertained. Seminars feature some of the country's leading experts on numerous motorcycling topics.

It all adds up to one of motorcycling's premier events. Purchase tickets now from Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
