This is obviously too late but seeing your post reminded me that I should join the AMA. They do a bunch of good stuff for us at motorcyclists and if you select to autorenew you get the roadside assistance as well.

What's up guys? I'm still down to ride around Bear Mtn one of these Sunday or Saturday afternoons. I have an extra 350cc's now too! My CBR 600 F3 has been out and I'm doing shakedown runs. Should be all settled within a week or so.

I think I'm busy this weekend. Hopefully going to buy a cbr600rr on Saturday. If I do I'm going to have to head to PA to get new tags etc.

Funny enough, I was on that site not too long ago looking at those benefits. I was also getting a quote for an FZ6R too and was going to add the road side and all that good stuff to my current bike. Shoulda, woulda, coulda

I'm all good and home and what not. I'll be busy this weekend inspecting the damage and hopefully getting some work done. Already ordered the new chain.

After talking to various other experienced guys, most opinions lean toward improper installation.

I really can't say for sure if it was that or not. I'm still new to riding and am inexperienced. I also didn't install it, but I do have confidence in the person who did. It seemed to be fine, even after adjustment at the tech day. Riding to and from Chicago, the chain was properly lubricated. At least it happened when I was relatively close to home, albeit 70 miles away on the turnpike. I'll just take it to the shop next time.

If it was one of those clip type master links i think that would be your issue. A lot of people dont have problems but when you do, well you know....Happened on my friends 250 while on the NJ turnpike as well, but he was going slow approaching a toll so it didnt do damage. He then took my advice and got a riveted master link. I know people who will get the clip type master link and safety wire it just to make sure. I dont know if thats what happened, but just food for thought.

Also, hopefully i get to join you guys for a bear mountain run one of these times. As long as the start time isnt super early since its prob a 3 hour ride just to get there for me.

Funny enough, I just read a post on that:

I did get the rivet master but was told to just go with the clip type. I guess I will have to find that rivet master. IDK where I put it

As far as the Bear mountain rides, we sometimes start pretty late. If you can make it to bear mountain bridge by noon, you should be good to go

yea, although we "start" at 9am, KSU is normally a bit later. Not to mention the ride up. Then we ride around for a bit. Rest a little, then ride to eat sometimes, then ride some more and go home. I would get home sometimes between 6-9pm, depending on traffic.

SAteve,,,just came on and saw the chain story. Fior what it's worth now ( nothing) I went as far as sitting someone on the bike when I first adjusted it so it's real unlikely that it was too tight. Extrememly unlikely and yes...the clip was open at the rear...per spec. Do you know if it opened at the clip or was the clip still on and another link broke. ? When you pulled it later....did you have someone on the seat....was it by any chance supported by the engine and not the spools when you tightened it ? Godd thing that sucker didnt eat up your primary. Rivet.....I dunno....common sense says they're better but I read quite a few posts saying that you only "need" ONE WHEN OVER 90 HP ????? tHE CLIP took a while to get on but I oiled it and it snaaped right on. I feel bad. I mean....aisde from facing th clip right there;s nothing to it. Too loose and it rattles...too tight and you hear it. The ONLY diff in your chain and the others I put on was that it wasn't as waxy...and i cant believe that had anything to do with it. The clip had a microscopic nick but I cant believe that had anything to do. Not even a nick,,,a scratch.
BTW...guess what cost me a new tire on the truck....a silver drywall screw.

Sounds great. I was/am thinking about getting one. I almost bought it a few weeks ago. But I think I'll do some track days this year instead. That, and a couple long distance trips. Will definitely ride bear soon, as soon as I'm riding again.

Damn drywall screws!

I really can't say where it snapped, the chain was far from being found on the turnpike. Don't feel bad either, it could be a ton of things that went wrong with that chain and I'm no expert. I still have to put the new chain on. Thinking about getting it done tonight. Cost = $90

How does May 4th sound for a ride for everyone?

- NY people can meet in Astoria near the Triborough.
- NJ people can meet us at the Sunoco north of Ft. Lee on the Palisades.
- People around Bear Mtn or coming from up North can meet us at the gas station off of Willow Grove Road.

Figure NY people are KSU at 9:00AM.
NJ people we meet up with and are KSU around 9:45.
Other people at Lake Welch we are KSU at 10:30

http://goo.gl/maps/GmpDU

Once we get up to the Bear Mtn area it's about a 65-67 mile loop. If this sounds good I'll make a new thread for the ride. Also if @eddiekay comes I'm sure he knows some great routes up there.

gOT UP NORTH TODAY...lotsa roads i havent been on,
Typical ninjette story:
just south of 301 on taconic
got blasted by 5 victories, got so far ahead all I could see was thier tailights
then, the road turns....y'all know the rest
This went on all the way to the bronx....then the trafiic got heavy
Y'all know the rest
I was quite surpised by how fast those dinosaurs are on a straight, one guy pulled up next to me at 95 (WOT) smiled... gave it a twist and shot away. Very powerful bikes, incredibly noisy, way faster thean the HD's. Was fun.

Dan...I gotta get at least you and R1 up to the catskills.
10 hour day, near 400 miles. 155 up on slab....maybe 100 back on slab but everything in between is fast and round. Take the time to google map Livingston Manor NY....go north on rt 20, rt 30....east on 28. These roads are for your bikes. No traffic, no enforcement. I do this route a few times a year myself becuz no one wants to go....watefalls, covered bridges, hard packed dirt, ****** pavement and the road around the reservoirs (30) is perfectly paved, banked in some areas....but you gotta be willing to go a long way.
