I was thinking about this tonight and I think that another reason women may be more comfortable as passengers is that, literally, women are more (physically) comfortable as passengers. Many sportsbike seats are crazy tiny and I can't imagine how a normal sized guy would even perch up there.
I asked my husband, who's 6'4", and he said he'd ride as the passenger on a GoldWing, no problem...but he'd be scared he'd topple right off of most sportsbikes' teensy passenger seats. The center of gravity would certainly be pretty messed up.

“Heck no! Sure riding with another guy would be gay,”
If you think that’s gay how about after the match when the football team are all naked in the showers together. I think some of you need to grow up a bit Steve

In the past I did most of my riding on the back of other guy's bikes. No problem.( I did ride pillion to my mate's wife Sarah on a two hour journey to brands Hatch back in the Eighties. She wore leather jeans - I may have sat 'slightly' closer to her than the guys I rode with ) |

Riding on the back of my bro's gixxer 6 made me want a bike. Mind you, we were adrenaline junkies, so the rides we took were never safe. But then, few adventures he and I took part in were safe. I never felt endangered (though in retrospect, I should have), and wouldn't hesitate to ride bitch again.

yeah I would still ride on back. Its kinda thrilling sitting on that little teeny seat and getting tossed around. Only thing is, now I'm much more likely to just say hey how 'bout i ride mine instead?
In this same theory, is it "homo" to ride a tandem bicycle with another guy? I've got a friend with a cool tandem road bike, and sometimes when we're bored we go for rides. 2 dudes, one bike. not weird. |

I fell in love with motorcycles riding b*tch. I'm sure I never would have wanted a motorcycle of my own if it hadn't been for all the hours I put on the back of my ex and his twin brother's bikes (ZX10R, ZX6R, and GSXR 600s). I wouldn't ride on the back of just anyone's bike though. You have to be committed to the risk that you are going to take. My now boyfriend rides a very nice Harley Road King, which I don't hate riding on the back of, but needless to say, it's more fun on my Ninja.

Or to generalise your statement: I don't hate X, but needless to say, it's more fun on my Ninja. Where X can be any verb in the known universe. For example: I don't hate riding a moped, but needless to say, it's more fun on my Ninja. or I don't hate basket ball, but needless to say, it's more fun on my Ninja. or I don't hate having sex, but needless to say, it's more fun on my Ninja. |

I've given a ride home to my slightly drunk buddy once (I'm a 20year old straight guy to clarify). was absolutely hilarious. a bit heavier than my female friends, but nonetheless absolutely hilarious.
Before I got my own bike, I took a ride on my dad's yamaha v-star 1100 ( a few years back). didn't think anything weird of it; probably cuz it was my dad driving. I wouldn't go out of my way handing out rides to my male friends, but I don't really find it weird.. as long as they don't hold on too tightly or get too cozy haha |

Rode on the back of my dads harley from ages 12-15, Then I got my own bike and endorsement and I'll only ever sit back there if I absolutely have to. That being said, my dad got a flat tire once while out on a ride, so he rode b*tch on the back of his buddies yamaha v-star to get home to get the car and go back to pick up my mom, the picture is freaking priceless! But yeah I wouldn't ride as a passenger unless I had a really good reason to, and it wouldn't be enjoyable. I can't even stand riding in other peoples cars now most of the time because my driving style is so much different, passenger on a bike? FORGET IT!

I wouldn't have a problem with it regardless of the gender of the person I was asked to ride pillion for. I have also had a male pillion before... he ran out of gas and I took him to the gas station and back to his bike. I don't feel it had anything to do with being homo or not.

If you watch carefully, you can see that the second guys boner kept the first guy firmly in place until the crash was able to dislodge him.

I had thought I was the only one who noticed that... I think it was that it had actually gone flaccid by the time they landed that he easily slid off.

It all has to do with the details. Who? Which bike? Why?
I actually got my start riding as a passenger, it was the only way I could get onto a moto with the parents I have.... I have ridden passenger many times due to a broken/gas-less bike. Once, I rode passengers because it was going to be only way I got to "test-drive" a motorcycle - a buddy got a loaner, and wasn't allowed to let anybody else ride it, however, nothing was said about passengers. I have never ridden passenger with a woman though. I would like to try that. I have also carried many male passengers. Their various reactions have been very entertaining over the years. I once carried a straight dude on a test ride, his first ride on a moto, and you know, motorcycles vibrate, a lot. Well, I guess he had a short fuse or something, but I felt an increasing direct pressure on my backside and promptly pulled over. He was so embarrassed. I couldn't stop laughing, BUT NEVER gave him crap for it. At least I knew I could push a man's buttons as I could a woman's.... lol. I've also carried a gay dude once, who liked me and tried some stuff while we were moving. A quick shimmy back and forth freaked him out and kept his hands where they were supposed to be for the remainder of the ride. It's the last time he saw me. I have NOTHING against somebody's sexual orientation, period. I also try not to subscribe to the regular stereotypes of certain actions being classified as gay or not. Sure, nutz to buttz can be very gay if you're insecure, and makes some people very uncomfortable, but I see it as more of a mask than a reality.... Full disclosure: I am a man and I am straight, I'm just patient and accepting...

Depends Jiggles, how good of a rider are you? And are you cute? and would we be having fun with the situation, like messing with cultural stereotypes? If yes, and you're a good rider, absolutely! But, if I have a running bike, I'd rather ride my own. It's not a "no homo" thing, it's a "to pilot, or not to pilot" thing.... See where I'm getting at?

I have no objection at all to riding on the back, but I'm having a hard to thinking of a situation where I wouldn't just take my own bike.
I mean, if a guy called and said he'd never taken a passenger before and wanted to experience riding with a passenger before he picked up a date on the bike, then yes, I'd jump on the back--if I knew he was a good rider solo. And probably with my track leathers.

Riding on the back of a motorcycle is where I got the bug for it. It was back while in the Army and one of my buddies had a Honda Shadow cruiser. He wanted to to Tuscan and since we were still in training we had to have a "battle buddy" if we went off post like that. So he invited me to go up to Tuscan with him on his bike. Even though the back "seat" on that bike was not the greatest (got to be painful actually cause it's very narrow and sends lots of feeling to your tailbone) I still fell in love with that open feeling of just being on a bike and feeling free.
Anyone that thinks it's "gay" for a guy to ride on the back of another guy's bike is (IMO of course) homophobic and just needs to get over it. |
