helmet lock sucks!!

Well, it's my first time ever using it and I have to say, it is poorly designed. First off the damn exhaust pipe is right next to it, so my helmet has to touch it, when the bike has just been running for an hour and is hot, I am afraid it will melt my helmet... Not only that, but I accidentally burnt myself (just for a second, not bad at all) trying to get the stupid helmet on the lock.

I know I'm not good at it yet, but it takes me (no lie) 5-10 minutes just to get it on....

Are there any ways I can fix this? Any parts I could buy, etc. To make life easier and hopefully avoid those exhaust pipes from burning my helmet, backpack, hand, etc.

I've been thinking about getting a cable lock and then just have the helmet sit on the ground next to the bike. Think that will work?

have you tried turning the helmet around? maybe do the strap up and then latch it onto the buckle

Figured out my solution, I bought a cable lock, I'll just wrap it around the handle on the back and lock my helmet/backpack that way.

fwiw i never leave stuff on the bike. birds **** on it, kids **** with it, assholes **** it up. if its a bag it will get cut open. i just take my stuff with me

Thanks! I will do this one day in the near future, but for now my little fix will have to work.

Depending on where I park I take my stuff with me, chances are people will steal the whole bike before they just steal something out of a bag.

i did that bolt mod under the seat and well somehow it fell out lol so lock tight would be ideal.

Cable gun lock, available FREE from most police departments. Also available for $10-$12 at any sporting goods store or Walmart.

This is a solution I made a few years ago and it's worked great. Took a piece of aluminum, drilled a bolt hole in it, and put it in a vice to make the 90 degree angles. Helmet hooks onto it and you can't access it without lifting the seat so it's completely secure.

Please don't mind the lack of side covers, I am currently in the early stages of the naked/cafe racer project.

I don't leave anything on the bike that I want to keep. People will just cut the strap and steal the helmet.

The hook I made up does not expose the strap to being cut, the helmet butts right up to the seat.

I have locked up my helmet on the stock lock on every cruiser I've owned, and in 9 years riding I haven't had mine or heard of anyone else having theirs stolen. I think most people, even worthless thieves, realize that once you cut the strap the helmet is useless and you'll never be able to use or sell it.
