Chinese clip-ons to start?

Just getting my 250 sorted and I see clip-ons are a must for the track. But until I can wrangle the $170+ needed for some Woodcraft, Vortex or Driven clip-ons, what would happen if I started with some $40 Chinese clip-ons from Ebay (besides likely not holding up if the bike goes down...)

I'm a firm believer n spending money only once, and spend it right, personally I would save up and get the proper ones.

I understand what you are saying, but wondering what I'm giving up by going cheap on the clip-ons.

Quality, craftsmanship etc...... I'm not against cheap/inexpensive parts, except in certain parts, like brakes, steering, etc....

In the end it's your call.

I wouldn't recommend buying those. I have no doubt on quality, but more concerned about the fit of the part on the 250. One of my friend installed it on his 2010 N250 and had to get custom brackets made to get the desired clearance. I didn't see the arrangement myself but that's what he told me, eventually he ended up buying the woodcraft setup. I'm also using the Woodcraft clipons and they are just fine.

What I know is only by his experience so I can't vouch on it, otherwise, I wouldn't know what they lack at such a low price.

pics... hope this helps.. its a pregen too

the grips.. they not sell em any more .. nice.. the ends of them too but ahh..

the rest well if fitting the clips under the tripple, I could not raise the clip flush with the tripple b/c it would hit the part where the bar end goes into the clip so I ended putting the clips above the tripple tree and had to push my forks throught he tripple tree about 1/4 to 1/2 inch (lowereing my front). Tank is still on the way and if using stock fairing on way too...

I plan on making my own fairing lol

grips were $10
clipson like $40
lever like $40 too, they dont really adjust much lol

I had cheap clipons on my newgen 250. I never had any functionality issues with them however the anodizing faded on them and they looked terrible after awhile.

I say clipons are better than no clipons. If you happen to have extra money to spend on more expensive ones then go for it. However @Dsheumaker was telling me that Apex mfg had some that were super adjustable and I could see where that would be a big benefit.

Thanks for the pics and other feedback!

Looking at these in particular.

I'm hoping lowering the front end by a tad won't ruin the handling.

^ THIS

I did this BS with gear... Went and bought cheap helmet and cheap gloves and you know what.... it was a big waste of money. Get the proper item, or don't waste your time.

Suck it up and spend the money.

Do you remember what you spent money on one year ago? In a little while you'll have forgotten all about the extra cost of buying good stuff.

See, I really wasn't asking anyone to tell me how to spend my money. I was simply asking what specifically would happen if I chose to spend my money on cheaper, Chinese clip-ons so that I could make my own informed decision. Has anyone had any personal experience with said product they could share? A couple have, and its appreciated.

I can send more pics...

so far so good.. the finish is good, the ends are covered with plastic ends.. which on one I ended up just covering it with the grips..

the levers that I showed you, I was a little less happy as they are not as adjustable as I would like but they look great..

the grips, were really good, especially for $10...

my advice , the clips and grips are good, the levers.. I would order others b/c I really wanted the adjustability.. otherwise.. they look great..

on my other bike, I put rizoma girps and mirrors and ASV levers.. no clips and do not regret the $$ spend..

for my little old ninja, I don't regret the little spent there either

enjoy your purchase

Get the best you can afford-
I have some of those, fit is fine finish is fine. I don't trust the shinny stock bolts so getting new ones at lowes- 6mmX16mm I think is right.

Same here I tried out some Chinese clipons and levers lying around my garage the only issue I had was the cheap anodizing fading away after a few weeks. I went back to OEM bars after the color faded. Other than that it functioned well.

Spend the money on Woodcraft.

We build lots of racebikes here at the shop and the chinese/Driven ones tend to break at the bolt holes or strip out easily.
