Sound Restrictions?
Anyone try using the full yoshi at Laguan Seca?
I just took mine off and will be using the 300 at Laguna Seca. But the stocker is so ugly. The full yoshi is pretty loud so i'm not going to bring the bike there and and can't pass the db. Any suggestions for quiet after market full systems? The area-p doest look that great either but i rather have that than stock. |

I haven't been to Laguna since they imposed the park rules, however; I remember someone stating you have to run stock exhaust! Hopefully I'm wrong (it would be a first).

For both motorcycle and car Track Days, Laguna has the most restrictive sound requirements in the nation. I've seen even stock exhaust equipped bikes get flagged. And the car guys run some outrageauous sound cheater deflectors that somehow get away with it.... And where they take their readings, makes it near impossible to cheat the meter. And if they see/note you backing off purposely, you'll get flagged as well. They can also employ roaming meters at other points on the track. Why even chance it? Run the oem exhaust and enjoy your day at the track.
OP - re your inquiry to us - keeps getting sent back for incorrect/missing something on your supplied e-mail address. If you did not receive the response and/or you need further assistance, please try again. |

The restrictions there ARE insane. Close to California's street limit if I remember correctly, 98Db I think? California also does not test a vehicle running at full throttle on a race track to measure sound ratings. Most cars will run either stock exhausts or the 'cheater' pipes that point the pipes away from where the meters are. For rotary powered cars the track is a nightmare.

It's a 92 db limit, substantially quieter than 98 db, given how these ratings work. Stock bikes have been known to read over the limit at times (not our 250's/300's, but R6's especially).

Well technically - The EPA sound legal limit is actually 80 dbA in a dynamic drive by. I believe it's been that since about 1985. When I first got into the industry back in the 70's, it was 83 dbA. When they lowered it to 80 dbA, I initially thought they were crazy, since lowering it 3 dbA was a monumental task to attain, while still making any power (back in that technology era). There are increased levels for earlier year models. But you'd probably have to go back prior to 1970 to have a "legal" sound level of 92 dbA. And good luck convincing someone in an official position to agree with you.... But as noted above, at Laguna, even some box stock bikes won't pass their particular sound limit.
