Well, this will be fun (Houston)

Harvey is coming!

I'm just glad I don't live further south. We live in a fairly new area. Last time we had major flooding, it didn't really do much over here. Pray it is the same thing this time around. Tweaked my ankle trying to secure stuff outside. Yeah, this will be a fun one.

My generator is gassed and ready.

I headed out to snag a bit of breakfast this morning. I passed two stores on my way and they were being SLAMMED. Not by rain...but by last minute shoppers.

REALLY? You knew ALL WEEK that this thing was heading our way, and now you decide to get supplies? WHAT? hahahahahahahahahahaha

I guess with some storms taking a turn at the last minute, they were hoping for that. But I know it was simply procrastination. lol

Survived night one! Now just trying to keep tabs on bayou levels and such. We've NEVER flooded here, even during that last Allison storm that was so bad. I pray we end up with the same result this time.

What area are you at Alex? We moved out to Sugar Land area and we've been getting bands of rain. Rain hard. stop. rain Hard. stop.

I'm worried about my mom's house down south. Last time we weathered though the hurricane the house was swaying back and forth on the stilts. House is much older now so I doubt it will fair as well as it did last considering this storm was closer and stronger than last.

No worries of flooding in our new home.

I'm out in Katy. My sister, mom, and brother are out in Cypress. My other brother is out in Memorial. My mother-in-law is down the street from me and my sister-in-law is down the road about 10-minutes.

So I got a call earlier saying that my parents got some water in their house thanks to a boat going down the street. Second time their house has flooded. They JUST got their house fixed again from that last flood. So this is most likely going to push them to move. I think they are officially done with the old house (have had it since I was in high school).

My sister-in-law called as well and they were getting a little water from their backyard seeping into the house. I have a feeling I'll be over there helping them install new flooring, insulation, and drywall.

The biggest thing though, is they are safe. Houses can be fixed, items replaced. I've realized that more and more as they day has gone on. Though, my cameras will be safely put away to avoid damage if the water creeps up by my house. The bayou near us is 2ft under max. Our nearest drainage ditch is about 5ft below the bank. I hope it stays that nice for us. At least if they need a place to crash, if our house is fine, they'll have one.

This. Because yes, "stuff" can be replaced, but the people can't.

I'm glad you're in a place that seems mostly safe. The pictures being published look awful.

I'd post some of mine on here, but all you'd see are full ditches and rain. Looks like a typical heavy rain area. I am so thankful that is the case. SOOOO THANKFUL.

We ended up getting water half way up our driveway. That is about chest high at the street. Luckily, we didn't flood, but we did have to evac. I got my truck out just before the water rose enough to keep me there. We drove to my in-law's place. Stayed there, but then the rain stopped and was told that the water levels were lower than predicted, so our house should be safe. We went back, and the water levels were slowly dropping. Then an overnight mandatory evac notice went out. So we packed up quick and left. Didn't want to chance it. Yeah, it was a "whoopsie" on our county's part. They put that there to try to keep people from trying to come back. They could have told us that instead of making us freak out. We ended up going to my SIL's home. Stayed there the day, and went back to our house that night. That was two nights ago.

Water keeps going down. Our street is dry for the first time today. So my wife can drive her car now. That is excellent. The section across from us (literally behind our home) flooded. They are locked out for now until the water drops more. The street in between my section and that one is still flooded as well. I'm sure I could make it though in my truck, but small SUV's would have no chance. This will be one slow process for many.

I have photos to finish editing from a wedding, and a house to get straight again. First time on a computer since that storm started.

Glad you safe.

I can't really complain on my end. Internet was down, until today. about it. shop flooded, and lost a lot of stuff, but to be honest, a lot was either personal stuff, held onto for many years( no way to ever replace memories ) or it was new tools, never used yet. so a financial loss, but not anything I lost that was helping me do current jobs.

But in a way the helped clean up , and simplify.
