my favorite road...
With the nice weather we've had the past few days, it gave me the chance to go out and try out my new camera mount I got for Christmas.
Recorded a leisurely ride on my favorite road yesterday. Couldn't go too fast or anything b/c there was a bit of traffic, higher winds, and some debris scattered on the road b/c of the winds. Had to stop in a couple spots to remove a downed branch and someone's trash can. Had to speed up the video in a couple of spots b/c I got stuck behind cars doing the speed limit or under. Nothing special... just sharing... |

That road does look fun. Lots drives and roads turning onto it though, so I wouldn't want to ride it any faster than you were going in the video.

I've had times where I will literally just go back and forth on that road 3 or 4 times. It's great practice for how to look through turns and dealing w/off camber curves. Last futzed with by reaubideux; January 3rd, 2012 at 10:29 AM. |

@Malicious Logic, It was mounted right beneath the right side mirror, using a suction cup mount on the front fairing.
@NDspd, nope, actually it's just my cheapy Kodak digital point-n-shoot digital camera. Just used the video camera function. Here's the camera I got the mount from Amazon, it was just a generic suction cup mount with the threads to mount to your standard tripod mount on digital cameras, cost like $20. It's not the greatest mount as it has trouble tightening down the camera causing the camera to swivel on the mount as evidence in this other short video I had to cut short b/c the batteries ran out shortly after the end of the video and b/c the camera swiveled out of place. |

lol...that's ok man, it's a start. I really want to invest in a new gopro, but the streets where I live suck too much to even have one.

Yeah it does, except the roads to Bixby are a lot less busy.
I've been halfway to Bixby once, headed home at Potosi, then I've been to Lesterville using a lot of those same roads, wrecked on the way back though. Great group of men and women but I don't think I'll be riding with them again anytime soon, just way too fast for me, i.e. - above my skill level, to even think about keeping up and I don't see my skills ever reaching theirs so I'll stick to my leisurely rides. I'd love to get into track days but I don't think I'll have the money to do it and can't really afford to wreck my bike should that happen, and with me being a newb, it probably would. If they have like a learner's group where you can go a bit slower and get some instruction then I'd look at that. Are you on any local STL forums? |

MCRA offers a speed limited "Try the track" group. For $30.00 you get two 20 min track sessions and lunch. Our control riders are great and will bend over backwards to help you. One warning, once you ride a track you will be hooked!!!!!!! Trust me on this one. I am on the MCRA forum under ducksutton. Hope I don't get banned for this, but MCRA is at www.mcraracing.com. Check it out...Oh and crashing on track does happen. I pitched my 2 week old Ducati 1098 down the track at Gateway, and last year again at Putnam. But at the track it is ussually less damaging than crashing on the road. And all of us racers are always willing to pitch in parts and help to get you back out there!

Thanks Randy. I'll definitely look into the "Try the track" group sessions.

If you do come out for try the track, stop by my pit area. Just look for the Ducati 1098 number 511 and the Ninja 250 either number 511 or 570 (number changes if my son is racing). Always fun to meet new people.
