Just curious how many resident nerds we have on the forums. If you are a HAM operator or just getting interested in HAM, feel free to post here.

Cool, good to here, no callsign for me yet. I just scan on my receiver and listening in to get the hang of things before I go to test. Still got some of your old equipment? Also, If we get enough posts on here, I will post my RF paradise rap :-)

KG4EFO here! Haven't been active since I got my ticket in '99, though. My 2m handheld is dead somewhere, never bought a new one. But, now that you've brought it up, I can see that I'll be spending the weekend thinking about getting back into it.

Lol, it is really become a lost art, but the technology is amazing. The licensing no longer requires knowing morse code, and you can find some really cheap, old military receivers that work great. I have an ICOM IC-R71, and a handheld ICOM IC-R5. It's really a great hobby.

It's 630 now, my transmission is flowin,

LOL that is a hoot.

Packed in the garage somewhere is a HW-301/401 I built, with a 1K amp. What I could put on the air real quick is my ICOM-251 for the car, a Yaesu FT-60 hand held, and if I dug out some of the coaxial antennas I built, an ICOM-720A. If life slows down I might have to do that.

2M & 10M long time ago.... old KA6xxx. Pops was into it pretty heavy. Had lots of fun modding the 858 chip CB's. <26.005 up into the 28.000's

Those freqs & 1kw, would kill all the phones and tvs around the neighborhood..

Hey remember the first EFI cars, 400 watts would make them stumble pretty good too

Not to forget playing star-wars with the florescent tubes in the street(lit up by the rf)

Not legally. It is intended for non-commercial person to person contact/communications. The only real exception is an Amateur Radio Club or disaster situation when you have a "net" (group of operators in the field) being communicated to and directed by a single station called Net Control.

Glad I could help foster some memories! now perhaps you could help a young man, such as I, to build his own transceiver. I have looked online, but am having trouble finding out how to build my own. I probably could afford a newer one, (looking at an Icom HF one) but I think it would be better for me to make one first. Any help would be great!

Check out www.qrz.com and www.arrl.com. ARRL may have back issues of QST, the monthly mag. It usually has plans, etc. Am I to assume you have the proper equipment for calibration, etc.? You do have your license (HAM), correct?

No license ATM, just observing to get perspective on things. I may have all that equipment available to me. Are you talking about spec-a's and signal generators? or something more specific? Also for testing, I will probably set a "lab" with some cables and attenuators hooked up to my rcvr. Looked at the website, the closest place for testing (for license) is going to be a few hours away.
