Couldn't find a good how-to video for a pregen Ninja 250 fender eliminator, so I made

https://youtu.be/xOwyelf8Cew

Link to original page on YouTube.

I've seen written tutorials on how to relocate the turn signals into the empty ponds, but most of them were half-assed with most of the details taken out, so I decided to kinda just figure it all out myself and make my own how-to video. Hope this helps those looking to do this!

Heatshrink and electrical tape are made for insulating, not really securing. I suggest crimping/soldering your connections to avoid problems in the future.

I prefer not to destroy good parts if I don't have to. Instead of cutting the wires off the old turn signals, just put new bullet connectors on the new signals so they plug in like stock, and you can sell or go back to the stockers if you need to. My 500 (and I think my VN700) uses an odd-ish 2.5mm bullet, rather than the sizes you find at every autoparts store.

You can get 1156 bulb sockets that have the ground wire attached (just like the power wire), so you don't have to bother with trying to attach a wire to the outside of the socket. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AKX8MSO is one example. You might be able to use one with tabs and just put some notches in the reflector hole to mount it, rather than having to glue it.

If you wanted to get more creative, you could use a dual-filament 1157 socket. You could then use them as turn signals and running lights, to make yourself a tad more visible. You'd have to keep the red lights for that though, or go with a switchback red/amber LED.

In case you forget to label the wires, green is left and gray is right.

Nice overall video. Great voice over to explain what you were doing. I agree with InvisiBill, about alternatives to cutting wires. Good work!

Thanks for the feedback, InvisiBill. Yeah, I was hesitant to cut the wires since it's the point of no return.

I'm going to leave them as just turn signals for now, but definitely going to get clear lenses with amber bulbs, although the only ambler bulbs I could find were a bit higher wattage. I might get some LEDs instead..

Where can I get bullet connectors to fit the current wiring harnesses?

I got mine from Eastern Beaver in an order with other stuff. I'm sure there are other sources out there, and EB isn't the best place for just a small order of those (since he's in Japan and has a minimum order). Looks like Cycle Terminal has them too. Google turned up some RC car forum threads, and suggestions to check eBay.

What about the license plate light? Isn't that something you need in order to be street legal?

In many to most states... yes.

On the pregen, you can bust out a small bottom portion of the taillight lense to shine some light down onto the license plate. If I get pulled over for it, I'll take the time to do it, but I'm leaving it for now.

On my Ninja 300's fender eliminator, I'd have to wire in new lights to shine onto the plate, which I haven't looked into yet :/

For what it's worth, most of my friends don't have plate lights, and some of their plate setups are super illegal, but they've all gotten away with verbal warnings, so I'm not too concerned about it right now.

Fwiw I ended up reusing the lamp sockets from the turn signals an reused the oem bullet connectors with some heat shrink. Cost me a total of $0!

That can work too, although just getting new sockets is easier and costs $5 tops.

What holder was used for the registration plate. I can easily move the turn signals to the pods.

I just used a couple of right-angle corner brackets to hold the license plate on. You can get them at pretty much any hardware store for less than $1 for a pair.

Thanks. In interested in seeing what the back of your bike looks like. Did you cut the plastic wheelwell / fender just under the seat? I see there is a seam overlap there where it attaches to the frame. Just not sure how much I want to remove.

I ended up converting my 250 into a streetfighter so I can't show you what it looks like anymore. Basically the fender and the wheel well are one piece, so you have to use a jigsaw and separate the two, and then install the wheel well portion back in.

To true re heat shrink & electrical tape. But avoid soldering of electrical terminal ends on wire. It causes vibration fractures, which is why all auto connections are crimped only !
