Is 33,000 too many miles?
We'll I'm looking at a bike, 33k Miles cosmetically in good condition, streetfighter but he has the front fairings and all original parts. It's a commuter and mechanically it looks sound. It will be my first bike, Asking price was 1000 but we agreed on 850$. I was just wondering how many miles i can expect to get it up to. I plan on riding it till major problems start happening then parting it out to put as a down payment plus more money on a new one.
I understand your not going to be able to tell me a accurate response since you don't know much. But if i keep up with regular maintenance and such, How many miles do you think i can get out of it? 10k more or so? And also what should i check more into to make sure it is a good buy. For 850 this is really the best deal that i saw in my area. |

33,000 miles is not a lot. What year, what model, how many owners, does it have records, how is everything else this guy owns?

That bike is halfway to retirement, which is far more than you will ever ride it so your plans to part it out are not going to work

It's a 1990 ninja 250. 2 Owners, Not sure about the records from the owner before the one i'm buying it from. They get to 60k on averge? If so that would be great, and this will be my only vehicle i think i can do 30k in less then 2 years.

His house is well maintained and so is his other vehicles he has only owned the bike for 8 months though, but theirs no rust or anything on the motor or bike itself, so cosmetically looks great. And mechanically i will bring a friend who knows more then me to check it out, but as far as i know it's in good shape all around, Run's good, anything i should check deeper? Just asked about previous owner, he was his uncles mechanic he kept it in good shape.

Totally depends on how well it was broken in and what the maintenance history is. Does the motor make odd noises? Leaks?

Why is the guy selling it? For that price I don't think you can go wrong. How are the tires? If worn, see if he'll buy new ones to sweeten the deal.

Tires back replaced about two months ago, 80% tread left, front will need replacing soon, I'll ask about that. He says he's selling it to upgrade to a 500r or 650 since he does a lot of highway commuting for his job.
