[RideApart] - Video of the Day: New Triumph Street Triple

Video of the Day: New Triumph Street Triple

Triumph have released a 30-second teaser of the new Triumph Street Triple it plans to unveil early next year.

RideApart will be at the launch event in London. The scuttlebutt is that the erstwhile 675cc machine will be boosted by almost 100 cc. Chris Cope got a chance to ride the outgoing version*for the first time earlier this autumn and says he was surprised to discover just how good a bike it is.

Thousands of Triumph fans could have told him that, of course. First introduced in 2007, the bike has developed a particularly enthusiastic following thanks to its combination of light, scalpel-like handling and giggle-inducing power.

Expectations for the new version will be high. The folks over at British publication MCN reckon the new Street Triple will be powered by a 765cc inline triple lump, likely to deliver 110-120 horsepower.

From the silhouette in the video (and various spy shots that have been floating around since 2015), the Street Triple’s aesthetics won’t be changing dramatically (though there are changes that will bring styling more inline with the larger, 1050cc Speed Triple). Expect improved brakes, though, along with a lot of the techno whizbangery that Triumph’s been equipping its bikes with lately. Traction control and riding modes seem a foregone conclusion if the new model is to keep up with the Joneses.

Triumph has been on a winning streak of late, so we’ll admit we feel a little giddy just thinking about how well this new machine could perform. We won’t know specifics, though, until 10 January.
