Comparisons with ninja 250 (interestingly, both sites have different stats):
Lighter weight : 356 lb or 364 with optional ABS (nice feature) Same fork diameter (37 mm) Fuel injected 13 liter tank = a little under 3.5 gallons 64 or 76 mpg depending on the site you look at 110 front and 140 rear (also 17 in wheels) 30.7 in seat height so an inch higher Single cylinder vs two cylinder 26 hp and 17 lb-ft max torque (slightly less hp with slightly more torque) It'll be interesting to see how it fares, but competition is always good to keep manufacturers competitive and honest especially with pricing. |

If this bike does in fact come to the US and sells well I wouldn't be surprised if Suzuki and Yamaha follow suit. I think the Honda is ugly as sin being a thumper makes it unappealing to me.

Maybe this move will bring the 2 others we've been waiting for
GSX-R 250 YZF-250 This is such an important segment of the market. Beginner bikes are the machines that get people addicted to this sport/hobby.

I really like the littlest CBR from what that shows, minus the thumper aspect, but even that is not a deal breaker. I wonder what price point it will make it in at.

It's a good looking bike.I like the the fact that it is fuel injected but I don't like that it is a single and the smaller size of the gas tank.
Maybe this will get Kawasaki to FI the bikes for the North American ,arket. |

The digital dash, EFI and ABS are the only things that one might consider, but for looks, the Ninja 250R still wins.

Nice to see some competition for the ninja 250. Plus its not a bad looking bike.
the new-gen ninja still beats it in looks. I guess it will all come down to the price of the honda. If it is anywhere close to the new ninja then kawi has some serious threat. |

I don't like the looks of it but, I welcome the competition to the ninja. The first to make a full sport 250 or 400 would get me to switch over from my beloved ninja.

It looks like this bike will be coming to the US.
Thai Honda had given Tyga Performance a heads up on this model and I think Tyga will actually have the bike very soon... expect a LOT of parts from Tyga for this bike, everything from bodywork to engine/exhaust and more!!

Speaking of awesome small displacement bikes: http://www.125duke.com/
I'm not sure what's happening, but there's definitely some positive changes going on here. Oh and condolences if you're not getting the KTM bike. |

I hope Kawi brings FI to the states... I don't understand why they don't offer both... and call the FI an RR or something.... Carbies for cheap, FI for those who really love the 250....
I think the Honda looks GREAT! Not sure about the thumper, but won't opinionate until I've ridden one.... And if the CBR causes Kawi to bring the FI to the states, I wonder if Kawi could offer an FI retrofit kit for the 250.... that would be slick!

sure, but if it's only for reference, I'm not sure I'd actually do it.... I mean, we're looking at TB's, ECU, fuel-pump (tank?), O2 sensor, etc....
I was thinking TB's from a 600, a Microsquirt, stand-alone fuel pump and any ol O2 sensor would do the trick, but that's a project for a year from now....

I talked to a KTM sales guy, and he said it's unlikely that the KTM 125 Duke will make it to America, due to the demand for liter bikes, and other bikes of the "super bike" nature. Hopefully he's wrong, but it the 125 Duke came to the U.S., it would be pre-ordered. No doubt.

Every one of those Super Sport 600s have an ECU-controlled secondary butterfly system. This is the reason the design engineers can put 38mm throttle bodies on 150cc cylinders. The ECU-controlled secondary throttle bodies guarantee good low engine speed (off-idle) performance so the engineers can use a relatively gigantic (38mm on a 150cc cylinder) throttle body that makes really big horsepower at high RPM. There is no secondary butterfly control available in MegaSquirt I, MegaSquirt II, Microsquirt, or MegaSquirt III. Even non-Super Sport bikes are being equipped with ECU-controlled secondary butterflies. Two examples of "Sport" level bikes with secondary butterfly systems are the European EX-250 fuel injected version and the Ninja 650R. These bikes don't really need them but I think that the motorcycle engine design engineers are "spoiled" by having ECU-controlled secondary butterflies as a tool to fine-tune the bike's performance (especially idle and off-idle). The European EX-250 fuel injected model uses 28mm throttle bodies. I used one of these Euro EX-250 throttle bodies in my 2005 EX-250 FI conversion. I removed the secondary butterfly system and they work great, but that's because they're sized correctly (28mm for a 125cc cylinder). |

There are great advantages to FI other than just the cold starting / cold running issues of small carbed bikes. One big one is how much less likely a rider has problems with a bike when it sits for any length of time. There are a bajillion threads on this board alone with "my bike won't start" topics, and if all of our bikes were FI, there would be less than a quarter bajillion, keeping all other variables constant.

Judging by the MSRP of the 230cc Honda bikes , it looks like Honda would price this around $5000...I hope I am wrong.

Honda wants a good piece of the 250 market Kawi's claimed in the U.S. And to do that they need to stay within the same price range. They will likely price the bike somewhere near the $4399 mark. And the fact that it a single is another reason to keep the price in that range. |

But you know what, Honda has always been a bit more expensive than the rest so you guys could be right. But if their marketing dept were smart they'd price it as competitive as the Ninja250R. Remember the NSF100? A lot of people had interest in the bike until they priced it $5K and the interest was no longer there. $5K for a 100cc bike? A couple years passed and dealers were just trying to get rid of them and dropped the price to $3500. A huge mistake by Honda IMO cuz those things could have sold like hot pancakes if priced at a reasonably affordable price from the geckgo. |
