she was a good bike...
well guys and gals my 2004 250 is no more after 29k+ miles...
hit a speed bump by my house again at 35 mph and when i landed my bike collapsed on me, in the middle like the titanic...my mechanic said that my front mounts were loose and popped out...well **** me, this is my favorite bike...  so fellas, fellettes, what do i do now?...sell the bike for parts, sell it on craigslist as is, or god forbid have the frame welded?... |

You have to get another one and keep this one for parts unless you prefer riding your 600. Sorry about the bike

You don't happen to have full coverage do you? If so, claim it totaled, buy back the salvage title for cheap, source out a new frame and pocket the rest.
If not, part it out, you can make quite a bit more money doing that as long as you have the patience for it. A buddy of mine parted out a lifted dodge ram and got twice as much as he was asking for the whole thing.

Josh has some great advice there. It seems like to me that the bike many years and many years of faithful service. Get what money you can out of it and buy a new Ninjette.

The hell? I guess suzuki welded your frame...ZING!
In any case, I wouldn't bother welding that frame. That's just a clusterf**k waiting to happen. If I was you (and I'm not...) I'd either source out a new frame with a clean title...or a junk frame with a bad/no title and build a track bike. Orrr...some kind of 250cc go kart. One with a squirrel catcher out front...for, you know, dogs and such.

i don't have full coverage because i only paid $600 for the bike...i think i got my moneys worth...
...it was still a strong running bike...yeah,, maybe a new 250... |

I know the dilemma. My Volvo is 24 yrs old and I have to sell it or part it out. I've had it long enough that I don't want to see it go to the part/junk folks. Then a guy came looking for it because he's a fan of the car. I think I may have found a good home for the old 245 wagon. Good luck with the bike.

Frames for first gen are dirt cheap on ebay. Like $100 plus $50 shipping I think

You can pick up frames for $100-$200. It seems like a lot of work but you can swap them in a day, plus you can clean and lube everything as it goes back together.
I've got a guy coming over today to buy one of my old frames for $100. You could also take your bike to a frame shop and see if they can repair it. We have a couple good ones here in NorCal. I'm sure there is at least one in the LA area.

i still have the zzr600 so i will ride that in the meantime...i will miss the 250 though...it sure was nice riding a slow bike fast...more fun than an off campus frat party just before graduation...

I'm kind of surprised that hitting a speed bump at 35 mph would wreck the frame like that. Obviously you shouldn't be hitting speed bumps at 35 mph, but that doesn't seem all that fast to me, and people hit obstacles like pot holes and such all the time. It must be a heck of a big speed bump!

capt...the front mounts were loose or already gone when i hit the speed bump...that is what my mechanic said when he couldn't find the mounting bolts...
told him to check for any loose bolts when he changed the fork oil last week, but i guess i should have been more careful... |

Just sold my spare frame to a friend today. When he came by his description of how his frame broke matches your photo exactly. He says he saw another with the same break. Seems to be a weak point in the frame.

The motor is a stressed part of the frame, so if the mounting bolts are gone the frame takes a real beating.
