Bridgestone S20 Tires

Anyone have any experience with the newly released Bridgestone S20 tires? I'm getting close to the wear bars on my BT016's and have read that the S20's are in between the BT016 Pro's and the BT-003RS while the pricing remains close to the BT016's.

It's still too new of a tire but I may look into getting them since my rear 16 is worn down.

Forgot to mention that I run a 150 rear, not the stock 130 which turn away ones that wish to stay with a stock-sized rear.

To me I think it's a great improvement to finally put the changes into perspective with the following review.

I've been looking at these myself as my next set. What I'm trying to better understand is the differences in the BT-016 compared to the BT-016 Pro, and now the S-20's. The compounds are different although the profiles appear to be very similar. The BT-016 rear has a 3 compound mixture yet the BT-016 Pro and the S-20's are using a 2 compound.

I'll be researching this further. Maybe by the time I need them there will be some quality reviews out.

Please note that the BT-016 Pro's are not necessarily equal in comparison for our 250's as they are not available in the 110 front/150 rear combo.

It should fit my factory chain guard without modding. With my aftermarket hugger, maybe not but I'll find out shortly.

Quote:
Metric
Examples: 180/55ZR-17 · M130/80-18 · 130/80HB-18 · 130/80H-18
The Metric tire size system is the most common and also the most descriptive. Metric sized tires are used on just about every type of motorcycle, from the latest sport bikes, to cruisers, touring bikes and everything in between. An "M" sometimes precedes a metric size when there is no speed rating used. It simply means that it is a motorcycle tire. Another letter is sometimes used after the speed rating to indicate belted (B) or radial (R) tire construction.

In the first example above, 180 is the width in millimeters, 55 is the aspect ratio (cross-section height is 55% of the width), Z is the speed rating (149+ mph), R specifies it's a radial construction tire, and 17 is the wheel diameter in inches.

Alpha
Examples: MT90S-16 · MT90HB-16
The Alpha size designation is most often used for touring motorcycle tires. They can be belted even without the B designation, which can appear after the speed rating.

In the first example above, M states that it is a motorcycle tire. T is the width (see cross-reference chart here.) 90 is the aspect ratio (cross-section height is 90% of the width). S is the speed rating (112mph) and 16 is the wheel diameter in inches. Since there is no designation of construction after the speed rating, it is a bias-ply tire.

Standard Inch
Example: 3.25H-19
The Standard Inch systems are found on older motorcycles. Tires with these Inch markings do not include an aspect ratio designation, which is 100%. It means the cross-section tire height is 100% of the width. Inch size tires are all bias-ply construction and not belted. They are no longer being fitted on new motorcycles and are gradually being phased out of use.

In the above size, 3.25 is the width, H is the speed rating, and 19 is the rim diameter in inches. The aspect ratio is not listed, but is 100% of the tire width.

Low Profile Inch
Examples: 4.25/85H-18 · 4.60S-16
This is also called the 82% Series Size System because the aspect ratio, when unspecified, is 82%. The tire's cross-section height is 82% of its width, except in cases where it's listed as 85%, as in the first example above. This system is limited to very few sizes and the motorcycle manufacturers are no longer using tires with this size system.

HorizonXP is local to me and is on his second set of BT016 150/60 and loves it. His review is linked below on our local forum below
http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforum...=1#post1406119

A few people here have also run the 150/60 and didn't notice the reduced on-street flickability of the 150/60/17 rear tire.
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showp...9&postcount=49
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showp...8&postcount=82

The tire diameter profile of the 150/60 is similar to the original 130/70 and the the 140/70 is abit taller. The 150/60 will pinch more on the wheel compared to the 140/70 as they are not designed to fit a 3.5" wheel.

Basically, both the 140/70 and 150/60 were not designed for the bike so flickability will be reduced and they will provide more pinch than the original 130/70. Once size can be argued to the worse than the other but they are both still beyond the designed tolerance. Opinions vary so you'll have to choose your limit with the stock wheel or order a 4.5" rear wheel.

I ordered it because I prefer the wider look and have not read a negative comment from someone who actually ran the 150/60 setup.

Here are my install picture.

The aftermarket skidmarx hugger did not fit so I removed it and and put back the OEM chain cover which fts beautifully. The hugger will be for sale shortly.

Might be in my head but I feel these tires(110/70 & 150/60) handle ALOT better then the original IRC Roadrunner(110/70 & 130/70) that I replaced.

It feels more firm and sturdy going sraight and ALOT less wobbly taking turn. i am happy with the upgrade so far.

I know it's an old thread, but it is the best one that came up in my search.

Is anyone else running these and can provide feedback on them?

Still running these tires... They're great tires. Very sticky and warms up quick.. Never feel like it'll slip once. It feels a lot more stable for me

They were awesome tires! Really great grip and wore slightly faster than my BT-16s.

BT S20

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting the BT-S20 for my ninja 250, 2012 model. For the rear, i'm going to go with 150/60.

For the front, i'm debating between 110/70 and 120/60. Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,

Hey BlueRider. I stuck with 110/70 in the front when I had my bike (sold it recently) i ran the 150 for the rear and it was extremely stable. Never felt a slip. I know some people who ran 120 in the front and its pretty close to rubbing. You can't go wrong with 110 front and 150 rear. I was able to knee drag very comfortably with this setup.

Thnx for the response.

Did the ppl who had 120 in the front, did they have any complaints though? About it not cornering well, or it rubbing/not having enough clearance or loss of flickablity?

If i'm upgrading, i'd prefer wider tires as i like the look, as long as it doesn't cause any problems while riding it.

I often run a 120 front on my 250. Why? Because I swap between a r6 and a 250 a lot. So I try to run the same tire profile on both bikes for feel.

Have I noticed any "real" negatives? Naw, not really. I WILL say though, the differences between 110 vs. 120 are as follows; (take these with a grain of salt as your feel may differ from mine and realize, my rear is not the stock height)

Feel on a 120:
No rubbing on stock fender (normal sizes and profiles)
The feel under super hard braking is incredible (tire brand dependant)
More planted feel in corners
Takes a slightly harder countersteer to get the same flickability, but I don't think I lost any performance in this area
Can run others take offs
When the rear tire comes off the ground, it feels more stable (tire brand/profile dependant)

Overall, a 120 will not make that big of a difference to a street rider at sane paces. They are my street tire size of choice.

I'm definitely getting this tire. Looks like the perfect mix.

Thanks for the info. Is your 120 front on Nina 250 a Bridgestone BT-S20 or some other brand? What do you have on rear?

I normally just run the DRII 2's 120/140, currently racing 110/140 sizes. I have also run the BT003's in those same sizes (120/140). Both felt just fine in most aspects of street riding.

Hi,

These pictures don't show up anymore. I'd really appreciate it if you could put them up again.

Thnx

Did the ppl who had 120 in the front, did they have any complaints though? About it not cornering well, or it rubbing/not having enough clearance or loss of flickablity?

If i'm upgrading, i'd prefer wider tires as i like the look, as long as it doesn't cause any problems while riding it.
didn't really ask them if it affected riding but it was just close. The 150 rear is close but i had no issues so im assuming maybe the 120 in the front won't be an issue as well. I didn't have any issues with 110/150 combo. They were great!

I've been running a 120 front for a long time as well with no issues.

The 636 came with S20. At 4000 miles I did a track day on them and no issues, for the next track day I put new ones on and they were great. Got them on sale $220 - $40 rebate for 120/70-17 and 180/55-17. Really couldn't pass them up. I ran diablo rosso 2, Q2, and Q3 on my CBR600 and like them all. Probably the Q more than the DR, but I think until I try the Q3 on the 636 on the same track, the S20 are right there with them.

The q3's should be good for ya. I have put 7 track days on my set of 3's at various tracks, in various groups, N, I, A and they still got some life left in em. JenningsGP in A group was by far the hardest on the tire but for $240 a set, it's pretty hard to beat. They like to rebound cup though...
