I'm probably gonna take a run through Blood Mountain tomorrow. Not sure what time yet, that will be determined by how much booze I drink tonight.

Well cool! I was hiking/camping up in that same area last night! It got into the teens on the mountain where I slept.

Yeah. Fleemos and I did a loop around Blood Mountian. It was a bit cold on the way there. We saw some hikers/campers that looked misserable.

I went to March Moto Madness this weekend (Thurs - Sun)...it was a Dual Sport Event thus why I didnt really post anything about it here or to our group. After some long riding in the woods, I found myself very close to a very cool familiar place on my Honda CRF250L. Too close to not go hit up so I RODE!!! Was the only one on the "Tail" going up...only saw a few going down. I would assume the 27 degrees had something to do with it but my heated suited kept me toasty. Missed you guys!

Star Motorcycle & Yamaha Street Motorcycle Demo Event
Mountain Motorsports Lawrenceville
155 Park Access drive, Lawrenceville, GA 30046
Ph: 770-822-0089
Saturday, April 25, 2015 - Sunday, April 26, 2015
10:00AM - 4:00PM

Come out and demo any of these bikes:
Bolt C-Spec, Bolt R-Spec, FJR, FZ-07, FZ-09, FJ09, R6, R3, Raider BC, Stryker BC, VMax, Vstar1300, VStar1300 Deluxe & Super Tenere.

Jeff at Mountain got back to me and it is a first come first ride event this year unlike past years when there was a registration process. R3 is added to the demo lists for those that were interested in that specific model.

I'm planning to get there on Saturday around 9:30. If we can all get our demo rides complete before maybe 1pm then we could do a group ride as well.

I'm looking forward to the demo day! I'm going to try to get seat time on the R3, The FZ-07 and FZ-09, and maybe the R6. I'll also probably try to show up around 9:30.

I don't know if it will change since the dealership is under different management but in the past we were limited to testing two bikes. There is one the previous weekend in Lithia Springs in case that's closer for some people.

Anyone interested in buying a moto trailer? I'm asking $350, but if anyone here is interested, I'd sell it for $300.
I'm trying to unload it before my upcoming big Appalachian Trail hike. Hope y'all are doing well!

It's still a ways out but the weather on Saturday is not looking so good. We might have to go to the demo day on Sunday instead if the forecast doesn't change for the better.

I went to Lithia Springs last weekend where I got to demo the FJ-09 and R3. Both were a blast to ride. The R3 had me missing having a smaller bike.

The Lawrenceville demo day was still on today! I got there around 10:30, and got to ride the R3 and the FZ-07 before anyone else showed up. After lunch there was a bit of a queue so I just headed out, but I think they're still doing rides now.

Yeah the weather wasn't as bad as originally forecast. I had to work one day this weekend so I switched it to today. Gonna try the FZ-07 tomorrow and take another spin on the FJ-09 which I might swap the FZ6R for in a few years.

Talking

From the perspective of a first time bike owner-- a 300 at that-- the Fz07 is one sweet bike. First gear was pulling well past 35mph with way more power to go. It is actually useful. The seat was comfortable and felt like it would remain that way for long commutes or trip.

The seating position made me feel relaxed and somehow part of the bike. I felt confident on the bike despite being on it for a short ride. Shifting was a smooth but you really have to kick the shifter to shift. The Fz07 says I'm a bike I don't want to be "babbied".

Unlike the 300 it doesn't need to be at an incredible revv range to display its power. I don't know at what point it redlines but 4-5k was had me screaming and grinning in my helmet. I did a small power slide when I changed to a Lowe gear and rev a were too high. (It's good that there's a fear indicator to help noobs out) that didn't happen again.
Definitely a nice bike if you're thinking of going Naked.

I wanted to ride it to see how I would feel in the saddle: I was more than happy with the bike. The next bike purchase will be an Fz07. I have to justify keeping the 300 and adding this new beauty to the family.

I miss riding with y'all!
In working 3 jobs right now and trying to refinance and rent out my house, I'm barely hanging on to that knot at the end of my rope.
It'll all be worth it in a month. I am hitting the Appalachian Trail!

Happy riding!

I have a video in a previous post above. I currently ride a Yamaha FZ6R and I considered the Ninja 650 at the same time. The Yamaha won out because of a more comfortable seat and riding position for my body as well as a lot less engine vibration through the bars. It also just felt more communicative to me during turn. I prefer power a little bit higher in the rev range and the Yamaha had that as well verses the Ninja which had more mid to low end power.

The FZ-09 is more of everything I like about the FZ6R from the short 8 mile ride. Power wise it has a lot more power everywhere, this engine never felt like it was out of it's power range. The riding position and seat felt very similar to the FZ6R which added to me feeling at home right away. I couldn't push the cornering speeds that much so I can't comment too much on that but I didn't sense anything I didn't really like. That it has a much bigger gas tank, a lighter socket on the dash and mounts for hard luggage are huge pros for me as well.

I agree with you on the FZ-07, it's an amazing machine and I can't believe the price. I felt comfortable immediately on it and the power was a nice surprise. It was so light and nimble, not unlike what the 250 was like. My only complaint is that I have become used to super smooth 4 cylinder power and it feels a little vibey to me but that's all relative, if you currently own a single or twin is is comparatively a very smooth machine. I'm sure some heavy bar ends would quell most of the vibration. At the end of the ride I felt it was the perfect everyday bike.

She is gone...

Well, I got rid of "KiKi" - my 2013 Kawasaki Ninja 300! It was bittersweet. She had been sitting and was just not meeting my new needs anymore. Most of you know I bought a Honda CRF250L a year or so ago and have been dual sporting like a nut. The ability to ride for about 20 o 50 miles to get to some dirt then spend 3 or 4 hours in mother nature, in the peace of dirt roads and trails, in the woods not seeing another car for hours...well, that has won my heart over. I still needed a commuter bike to ride my 12 or so miles on interstate to work one way and the CRF250L does it but not well at all. Enter, my new bike! Its a 2014 Honda NC700X and after only 180+ miles in the saddle yesterday, I am IN LOVE!!! Power was not an issue as I ride a 250 and 300 and we here know how to get the power out of them BUT the comfyness of riding interstate and then ride in town with no issues and then hit the tweisties and then get off road and hit the dirt...the NC700X can do it all!!! AND YES I already tried it all. I ended up having to drive all the way to North Carolina to purchase her but it was worth it. My trip back consisted of 80 miles of The Blue Ridge Parkway, some cool forest service roads, town roads with lights every 5 seconds, interstate 85 all the way from SC, and then around the mall of GA traffic....she handled it ALL perfectly! So now...to name her and do a couple must do mods for off-roading. Hahahaha see yall soon!

@vman1313

Congrats on the new bike. That is the best commuter bike around, I wish all bikes had that storage space where the tank is. I picked something up as well.

There is a bike night put on by Mountain today at Tower Burger in Alpharetta. I'm probably gonna head up there to hang out for an hour.
