Thanks guys, I'm still learning the bike. It's way different from my ZX-6R. Does anyone make a slipper clutch for the 250?

Yeah, and a slipper clutch is way more useful than a quick shifter is! The bike isn't fast enough for my shift speed to be a factor, but I do get wheel hop downshifting at speed. So, again what is so funny? Other than a quick shifter on a 250?

I'm just giving you crap. Your use to a 600 and you probably just need a little more time on the 250 to get use to it. The quick shifters have shown to gain apx a foot a shift its not much I know. But for fast guys it matters slow pokes it doesn't.

No one will make a slipper yet because its not to the point where it would be profitable for them to produce it. If the AMA series we are working on happens then you might is one pop up sometime in the future. They are racing these things on the Euro stage this season so maybe one may pop up in the UK.

Ok. Some good points. I do need to get used to this thing. Will your quick shifter work with GP shift? I still think a slipper clutch would have helped me more this past weekend. I experienced wheel hop a few times trying to hold the lead. Andrew was just too fast.

I can get sensors for either setup.

Try using more brake than engine to slow down.

^That and know that the rev limiter doesn't work on downshifts. I'm pretty sure I destroyed the top end of my first motor over-revving it on downshifts.

And I agree that a quickshifter on a Ninja 250 is pretty funny.

When I first got the 250, I thought the same thing about a slipper clutch when I first tried to "blip" on a fast twisty road.

I just can't seem to link the blip and the downshift - it seems like the bike takes too long to respond to the blip in throttle.

After a few rear tire hops - I still want one.

Are you guys downshifting two really quick and popping the clutch out hence experiencing a wheel hop...is this why you feel a slipper clutch is needed?

when downshifting, i feather the clutch then back on the gas hard (i used to just dump the clutch). don't really get wheel hop, don't know if i ever really did. i've felt it 'slide' if i'm being aggressive, but even then its just kinda 'meh whatever'. don't know if i'd like a slipper, overkill IMO =P

But are you downshifting one or two gears at once? Two gears I can understand...meaning you'll get some movement but nothing wild. One gear...don't feel a thing. Just modulate the clutch.

I usually just dump/pop it out which I don't recommend.

I was talking about going down at least two gears - I try too hard to ride some of the local roads IOM TT style (only with AGATT and very minimal traffic). It seems like using one gear at a time would mean letting off the throttle earlier - in a track mentality - which means slower times.

And I guess it "sliding" for a bit is the more common outcome, but at least twice while going from 6th to 3rd, I felt a little hop - but I guess it could have been my heart skipping a beat.

I got wheel hop when I dropped two gears trying to drive in deep going into "Patience" trying to pass Andrew. I also got it driving in hard into Turn 8 and dropping a couple of gears to get a good torquey drive out of Turn 10 while I was trying to hold Andrew off. It didn't work. I know I still need to learn this bike. I'm still riding like I'm on a 600. A few more track days and races will be good. I'm heading back to Colorado for a while. Maybe I'll hit High Plains Raceway.

Are you going to race with us in the MRA "250 spec class"?
Unfortunately slippers and Q shifters not allowed
There is also going to be a "spec" class for us @ IMI with the Rocky Mountain minimoto org.

haha yeah stop shifting so much! Most of those turns you could carry enough speed through to hold a higher gear. You've definitely got the lean angle down, but need to carry more cornering speed and use more runout area.

Yeah, I need more track time on the 250 so I stop trying to ride it like my 600. I'm doing a track day at High Plains Raceway in Colorado next weekend.

Since then, I've added the Area P, removed the tape art, and started rattlecanning the fairings.
