Hey David,

I saw that thread yesterday and am seriously thinking about doing it. I'm just concerned with how busy it might be since it's Memorial Day weekend. What do you think it'll be like?

I don't think it will be bad, there hasn't been a ton of chatter about it and they will likely break it into at least 2 sessions. There is a race this weekend so that will thin that herd a bit. And even if I can't get 6 people I can get a 3 punch for $81 ea.

Hi All, This is my baby. Last weekend was my first race weekend in the ARL series at Atlantic MotorSports park in Nova Scotia, Canada better know as "Shubie". I had so much fun and managed to come second in both my races in the mini-road racing class. Still working on my body positioning so far I have dropped 21 seconds in two weekends on the bike, here's hoping I find another 10.

July 9-10, better be there

I'm repainting the bike as we speak (in between coats) just for the occasion, hopefully I don't chuck it off the track this weekend at CVMA! From what you say, if there truly is a 30-bike 250 grid, this will be some serious fun

Kit-
A friend of mine was waitlisted for the NRS and he showed up and they let him in since the A group is generally smaller than the others. If you get in, DONT miss the in-between session meetings!

I may even possibly be in that race. Dependent on procuring race body work in time. Well that and whether or not my bike is a loaner that weekend.

I'm about 75% sure I'll do it. My only limiting constraint will be work (starting on a new project, so not sure what new schedule will look like). I should hopefully know by Wednesday at the latest.

Question for you guys who have drilled holes holes by the rabbit ears...could you answer me this (see attached pic):

I have no idea why you've drilled holes in this area because there's nothing that I can see that would line up or bolt to on the fairing stay unless I'm missing something.

Please explain with pics if possible.

TIA

I've seen several options for upper fairing attachment. The factory metal piece that the mirrors attach to can work, I have welded a little tab to the front stay and have a Zeus clip on each side, I've seen zip ties threaded through the holes. My personal favorite is to not drill the holes, and install a little rubber bumper on the factory holes in the top of the fairing stay; the fairing rests on the bumpers, but can move in a crash and is that much faster to remove and install.

I'll have to check the upper tab hole on the fairing stay though I don't recall it ever reaching that far into that pocket area.

I'm asking because my fairing stay is bent from my last crash and if I could somehow bend it back into that area then there's no need for me to buy a new one.

Sharkskins comes with the holes pre drilled, the mirror base mounts that attach to the stay fit in the holes, mine just sits on them I don't bolt or tie wrap them down.

It's a Veypor v1. All the info is on veypor.com It does everything a full set of gauges will do plus a gear indicator and shift light. It also can be used as a lap timer.

P.S. I did pass the NRS and sent in the paperwork but I haven't heard back?

give them a call or email directly, they'll sort it out. I never technically got my certificate either but they keep track of who went and will send it to you if you ask.

Also, if they don't know who you are already tell them you're a SCM. SCM members tend to get hooked up but you didn't hear it from me.

Oh wait...this is the BBS. Dammit!

Off topic but is your fairing stay bent?

From a racing expense view, a big fat YES!!!

It's also about having fun. If you're on a 600 and in the back of the pack...it's really no fun. Jump to a different class and if you're winning or on the podium...hell yeah it's FUN!

When I got bump up to expert last year I wasn't having as much fun as I did in 2009. As a novice I was running top 3-4 every race. I dropped couple of seconds just racing against guys in expert but to get on the podium I needed another 3 seconds. I was able to place consistently in the top 6-7 but right out of the money spot. The tires got more expense when you go faster.

The Ninja is way way way way way cheaper to race. I usually burn 20-25 gallons of fuel on the R6 and I the ninja I used maybe 5 gallons. Tires last for ever and its very close racing. I'm not riding around thinking I'm going to die every lap through Brainerd t1 and t2. I can day dream through those corner now.
