change oil filter, without draining oil?

Newb question but I had changed the oil without the filter last time. Would like to change the filter on its own now, would the oil leak or would it be ok for me to change the filter without draining the oil?

You can't do it. You WILL lose oil. Either just do another full oil change with the filter or just wait until your next oil change interval.

Besides, changing your oil more often doesn't hurt.

You should always change the oil and filter together at the same time.

When you take your oilfilter out, there will be an opening 20 times bigger than the oil drain plug is, so the oil will be drained.

Only if you have a lift that can clamp the bike and rotate it upside down. But if you were to go to that trouble, changing the oil and filter together is the easier route.
