Bike to Bike Intercom

Got the idea from a friend of mine. We had a set of the Chatterbox intercom system which is a decent set, but I didn't like the velcro push-to-talk switches and the wires were all very small guage wires and prone to break down I felt(not proven, just my thoughts). Plus I wanted a switch she could reach w/o having to reach or stretch for. After a trip to Radio Shack, I got some push button momentary switches, RCA cables, some extra ends and a couple of female RCA connectors. I drilled her housing right next to her light switch and mounted the momentary switch. After wiring it, I routed an RCA cable down to a female bulkhead RCA fitting and mounted in to the inside of her left fairing just infront of the fuel petcock. This way, she just plugs into the jack. It actually helped with the reception and transmission with the radio. The chatterbox is nice as we can listen to our IPods as well.

Her switch mounted:

The handlebar remote with my SK4000 uses up too much room but I got used to it. I wish it had some way to mount there. Then again, it doesn't have an intercom function. Well, you could always place a call between both riders!

The push-to-talk switch on the handlebar is a great idea. It reminds me of aircraft communication systems which have to button mounted on the steering yoke for easy access without taking your hands off the controls. Great job.

The fun part was soldering all the ends. At 42, as bad as I hate to admit it, my eyes are goin....... Have gotten so where I can't see up close, geez. The push button switch is pretty cheap tho, looks like it would be real easy to snap off. Just going to have to be careful with any kind of side load put on it. But room is really limited inside the housing there so that was the best one I have found so far. On the Katana, I didn't really have room, so I just made a little bracket that I put on the bottom bolt for the clutch perch. I may go in and wire it to the pass switch. Overall, it turned out good.
