I'm sure I'm guilty as charged. Thanks for the explanation, Alex! :-)

It depends on whether or not the picture is directly relevant to the reply and how far back the post being quoted is. It's not necessarily fair to expect people to remember a detail on a picture that's on an earlier page in the thread.

Then there's the example of the demotivational thread, it's kind of hard to know what picture's being commented on if you don't show the picture for reference.

Quarterly bump. Seeing a good bit of this from some of the newer posters. We need to learn 'em.

I was very tempted to quote the above, but decided against it. I know I'm guilty as charged so this is good to know.

A lot of forums have a feature that automatically resizes embedded images to a a width specified by the user in their thread display options. The forum default would probably be 800 or so.

Dial up? I didn't even know that was a thing anymore lol. Sevierville must seriously be in the middle of nowhere.

This forums auto-resizes photos that are loaded as attachments, or loaded to your photo galleries here. It does not do anything to those linked via the IMG tag to other photos on the web. I could limit the photos here to only attachments/galleries which would fix the wide pic issue, but many folks get great use out of linking external pics. There are some unsupported hacks which try and resize the linked external pics on the fly in the browser, but they aren't seamless, and would not transition well as I continue to upgrade the standard forum software here. Some folks have written some pretty slick custom code that takes those linked pics when a post is made, loads the image as an attachment locally, then changes the post content to point to the local attachment. Slick, but again, unsupported. In the meantime, if people are posting up uber-wide images (in my mind, that's 1500+ pixels wide), call 'em on it and ask if they can re-size it.
