Best Bike Roads State by State

We need a state by state list of the best motorcycle roads that our members have ridden.

If there is one already I couldn't find it.

Here's some of mine in no particular order. In Rhode Island (where the good ones are much too short): Arcadia Rd, Ministerial Rd (rte 110), Rte 1A by the ocean, Switch Rd, Carrs Pond Rd, Rte 102, Rte 112, Clarkes Falls Rd,and Kings Factory Rd. Connecticut 49 to RI Rte 14 or 14A,to RI Rte 117.

I think for California it might be shorter to list the roads that *aren't* fun.

The obvious ones in NorCal are:
* The Hwy 36/3/299 loop up near Redding/Fortuna
* Lost Coast
* Anything in Gold Country or the Sierras
* Santa Cruz Mountains in the Bay Area
* Hwy 1 pretty much from Oregon all the way down to SoCal

One of the world's great scoots.

Western Colorado
Route 550
Silverton to Ouray.
Known as the. 'Million Dollar Highway'
25 miles of of spectacular twisty stuff.
If you get it wrong, they'll be picking you up with a sponge.

The only problem is if everyone puts down their favorite road and it isn't segragated by state you have to go through all the posts to find the state, and roads, you want to ride. This has to be added by a "higher" authority.

I have seen the sites that list bike roads but I know I have favorites that aren't on those sites, and I don't want to put on those sites, so they don't become too crowded to ride.

I found some spectacular roads in Cali. They are highly secret roads and I would only recommend them to highly skilled riders (very dangerous).

Utah

My local favorites (close to home) not in any specific order:

UT-92 | Alpine Loop Road
UT-190 | Big Cottonwood Canyon
UT-210 | Little Cottonwood Canyon

Bonus: Writeups on great Utah, Western States, and British Columbia roads

OK I'll bring a camera next time and shoot some pics.

The best list of roads grouped by state that I've found is motorcycleroads.us. Just click on your state and you'll find alot of 'em.

Although motorcycle roads.com is nice for someone with no local connections, it doesn't list any of the great roads I know. Locals always know the back roads (not state or county roads) that are hard to find and fun to ride.

An example for Daytona is "the loop" (which is not listed). A 25 mile ride through wetlands, forest, state park, and beachfront.

None of Rhode Island's wonderful back roads are listed. Rhode Island is full of some fantastic twisty, hilly, country roads with no traffic (almost) and no cops (not that you would ever speed).

It's motorcycleroads.us Not .com,-.us dot yoo ess The motorcycleroads.COM is not as good in my opinion. But not all of the good roads are listed. Another way I've found twisties is with a good large scale map, such as Delorme's Atlas and Gazetteer-here's a link. http://www.amazon.com/Connecticut-Rh.../dp/0899333516

And you can go to Google Earth and zoom in and see exactly what the curves look like.

But the RI roads are just too damn short. CC turned me onto some real good backroads up here. Now I follow his advice and stay off the numbered routes as much as possible here and in nearby CT (but CT 49, 201, and 14 can be fun).

Sorry Wild Billy, I meant to type ".us" in my response but my mind and my fingers aren't connected and sometimes my fingers type whatever they want.

Like Saddlemaster Greg stated, backroads that only a local would know about is what I'm looking for.

Would there be a way to create a sub-forum of state/regional maps where riders could "highlight" great roads, and post notes about the route?

I can imagine pulling up a map, say, N. California (or even a smaller region, if a N. Cal. map gets too "cluttered" with highlighted routes, or something scalable?). Perhaps a color coded system indicating paved/unpaved or other categories, with a label or number, or perhaps the ability to click on a highlighted route which brings up notes or a link to a review.

I would be great if users could add routes, or add notes. I keep imaging each route being linked to sort of a thread of its own, where people can comment and add pics and the like.

I guess the simplest system would be some way to sort states/regions, and people could just highlight a route, using something like google maps, and copy the image? Would it be possible to make something interactive? Would that just get too bogged down to use?

I'm not a programmer, I am not sure if this would be just too much work, or be entirely too unwieldy, but if there is a way, I think it would be a useful feature.

As someone new to riding, this is a great resource! There are roads close to me on the Georgia maps that I can try out. Everyone tells me mileage is the best way to improve as a rider.... I hope the weather is nice this weekend because I am anxious to get out!!
