Ducati 399 Scrambler
On the heels of the BMW 310, comes the Ducati 399 Scrambler.
403lbs wet, 41HP/25TQ. Great looking bike, a bit on the heavy side but torquey Ducati L-twin (yes, not an inline twin). http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/2015/1...2-makes-debut/ |

Is it a sleeved engine? Same logic Kawi used with the Ninja 650 vs 400

Sleeved engine making way less power, outdated front suspension, worse braking performance, and cheaper looks for only $900 less than the 803cc Scrambler.
Spend the extra $900 and get the Scrambler Icon. You're welcome. |

I think this is ducati's answer to countries that have tiered licensing systems with power to weight ratio limits.

If it is indeed as simple as swapping engines on an 803cc Scrambler, I imagine the cost can't drop very much. That wouldn't be a great move on their part. |

I figured it was just like Harley doing the 500 and 750 street motorcycles. I'm pretty sure Australia, New Zealand and other coun tries do the tiered licensing as well. Surprised none of the state's have jumped on the tiered licensing bandwagon. |

Confirmed, $7995, forget about it. There are so many good bikes you can get for $8k or even less, like an FZ-07, this bike makes no market sense at this price. Apparently it's just a sleeved down 803cc motor, and swapping out for cheaper suspension and braking components from the regular Scrambler. That's a pretty weak effort on Ducati's part, and I can't imagine who would buy one when the full Scrambler is basically the same bike with more than double the power, better brakes and suspension, for $800 more. I guess it is indeed a licensing offering, not something that we need in the States. |
