2008 250r Track bike build
Hello everyone, I recently sold my Ducati 748s in order to buy a ninja 250r and start racing. I was sad to see the old women go, but sacrifices must be made. The same guy I sold my Duc to had a 2008 ninja sitting in his garage that had 400 miles on it. We made a deal and now I have a ninja. It also came with a slip on, but I still need to pick it up.
Purchased- Steel braided brake line KN Filter Mod to-do list- Clip-ons Rearsets Slip on and later full system New Jets of course Seeing the prices of track fairings, I'm debating making my own. Since I've got it, I have been stripping stuff off. I used a grinder and cut off part of the chain guard so I can convert the bike to GP shift, which I prefer and I've also used a bracket to replace the ugly passenger foot peg to support the exhaust. I'm also in desperate need of new tires and won't be hitting the track until I get some new ones. The tires on her are the ones that came with her brand new (from 2008!!) They seem to be dry rot a bit on the sides too. I'm sure I'll be thinking of some other stuff to do too. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. I've got some race take-off BT-003RS in the for sale section. They're still good for track days, but I would go new for racing.

I've got a set of those on my bike right now. I race this weekend. I'm curious to see how they do.

You won't be disappointed with the pirellis.
If you wanna see how I did things, check out my race prep build. Suspension-wise, the easiest way to go is get an adjustable length aftermarket rear shock, some better fork springs and emulators, heavier fork oil and some vesrah brake pads. GOOD TO GO. |

Update* I got the SV clipons on. I'm attempting to put the throttle back together at the moment. After that I'm slapping on the steel front brake line. New pirellis ordered and a new jet kit! First track day is next Monday and I'm hoping to be ready. Thanks again for the feedback gents. |

I loved them! I pushed them hard all weekend. I did 5 races. including a 20 minute endurance race and I didn't have one moment where I didn't trust the tires. They never lost grip. The only time they slipped was when I got onto the paint on the inside of a turn. I will be sticking with these tires.
Are you coming up here in June to play at HPR? I've got room in the RV!

Sounds good. You're welcome to stay in the mobile mansion if you want. Is anyone else coming with you? More 250's?

First ride and am going to need some major carb work. I re jetted the carbs with a 110 jet after putting a k&n filter on and a slip on exhaust. Getting on the throttle it's a bit laggy and I haven't revved her up to high yet, because it is now 9pm.
The biggest thing I noticed were the brakes! They seem terrible, my past bike was a Ducati 748s with two big brembos, but holy **** these brakes seemed terrible. They have no bite and with it takes a lot of pressure on the brake lever to get her slowed down. Someone please help. I have a steel line and the front brake has been bled correctly too! |

what kind of pads? I had galfer 1375 pads originally and I didn't like the bite/effort, so I switched to Vesrah pads, and they're MUCH better, takes about half the amount of effort to get the same braking out of them. Only problem is that you need to bleed them after every hard session because no matter what the fluid boils if you use them hard enough.

*Update
First track day with my little donkey (250). A lot of fun! It was at heartland park, Topeka Kansas. I was running in the intermediate group and had no problems with corner speed (), however the acceleration was terrible! That being said I am very satisfied with the bike so far. I need to do a bit of carb work on her and debating racing her this weekend. The problem is the race will be made up of mostly 650s and I don't think I'll have a chance at a bigger track like Heartland park. I do just want to race though! Not really caring if I win or lose, it's more of a money thing at this point. I do need to find a cheap belly pan because I am running her without fairings. P.S. Yes I know, my bike looks ghetto. |

You need to take the airbox out and replace it with a K&N filter, then you will need to re-jet your carbs.

First race completed! I now have my race license. I also raced in a 25 minute race at Heartland park on Saturday. Holy **** that was rough with the heat! I dropped my lap times by 4 seconds over the course of the day, unfortunately I was the only 250 in the race, the rest were 600s and 1000s. At a high speed track like Heartland park I don't think I had a chance, so after the first lap it got lonely.
Race got cut a bit short, because a guy in the race clinic with me crashed at turn 14. I feel bad for him, because now he doesn't get his race license. Good news for me, I wasn't last place. Hopefully in September when MCRA is back at Topeka some more people will be out there with mo effin 2 fiddys!!!! I want to duke it out with some people!!!!!! Ohh I am running 2:15s are heartland now if any of you go out there I am curious to hear what kind of lap times you guys are putting down. Thanks! |

Another MCRA user here, was trying to get out to Heartland but couldn't get my racebike back in one piece. Will be looking to go through their race license program when I can get the bike together at Gateway or Putnam.

Congrats! now the addiction only gets worse.
Get the Vesrah's yet? Be sure to scuff up the front rotor with some scotch-brite or 600 grit lightly before you bed in the new pads so they don't just glaze everything. Or just try to use the brakes less |
