2014 Clutch Issue
replaced the clutch and fibers and plates, followed service manual in putting back together. I also installed a oem cable. Clutch perch is good as well. I have been playing with the adjusters and still have a lot of slack. When I put the bike in gear the bike wants to take off even when the clutch lever is pulled. Any ideas what it is and how to resolve, have a track day coming up that I want to go to. TIA

There are adjusters at both ends if cable.
Do you have them both adjusted for max tightness? Post photos of each. |

Stupid question, what kind of oil did you put in last oil change?

o/c april '21, m14t, half 10w40, 20w50. slip noticed 500 miles later.
during hard, wot, high rpm acceleration. slip occurred above 10k in 3rd 4th gear. was using clutch for upshifts. oil mix not unusual. ran mcv 20w50 amsoil for an interval without noticing clutch difference. after 2nd occurrence i have adjusted the shift lever, haven't had issue since but also haven't gone flat out again. |

note he doesn't have issue with clutch slipping. It's not fully disengaging when lever is squeezed.

Or you might want to look at your clutch, steel plates, and friction plates, maybe the steel plates are glazed, and that's an easy and cheap fix.

pb3's issue may be opposite of OP's, cable's too tight. Or clutch is just worn-out. Replace and use stiffer springs. No slippage issues with upgraded power or using "fuel-efficient" oils with friction-modifiers.

Got it I think
So I figured it out. I went back into the clutch pack and noticed that the FACTORY SERVICE manual picture and written description was a bit misleading. In the attached pix, you think the arrow pointed towards "g" is towards the motor? Nope, they are on the end that the plate with springs goes to. So when you do your clutch replacement be mindful. Take the two fiber plate and metal plate that fits the plate that the springs go onto and they go on last.
Hope that is helpful, cant try the clutch at the moment due to this is a track bike conversion and the sun is set. Hopefully, tomorrow. I just want to say thank for all the responses, you all are more helpful/responsive than some FB groups. |
