What Is This Part On My Bike?

Simple question, should be a simple answer for some of you. It seems obvious it has something to do with the gas since the lines are running to it, but all the pictures i've seen of gas tanks and the left side of bikes don't have this.

All the pictures ive seen have one vent line. I don't know what they do because they're always dry except for the middle one sometimes. That must be the overflow?

And this black box. It's bolted to the engine by a long bolt at the bottom, and a short one on the left. It looks like it was meant to be there but i have never seen other ninja 250s with this.

Can you elaborate? What does it do? can I take this off? So this bike originated or was once owned in California? I kinda like the way it looks. It makes the engine look a little fuller in the fairing lol.

Yes you can take it off, there is a DIY in the DIY section under like kleen air system removal or something. If you modify your bikes exhaust/intake then the CA Bullshit system can cause popping on deceleration. I don't remember which is which but one of the those holes you have to plug, another has to vent, and the last one hooks up to the carb or something, idk

Not quite, it was built to meet California specific emissions requirements. I've got a CA newgen. Just a few other parts and tubes that make it interesting when following DIYs with bikes from the other 49 states.

Thats the charcoal canister. The charcoal inside of it absorbes Gasoline and, in some cases, crank case fumes, stores them and then is evacuated by engine "vacuum" and burned up in the combustion chamber when the bike is running. The fumes that are emmitted from venting gas tanks and crank cases is said to elevate ground level ozone, but only in Cali !
