How to identify cams?

Bought a set SUPPOSEDLY from an 86, but the seller wasn't all that sure, they also came with some tiny but feelable nicks on one of the lobes, anyways is there an easy way to determine exactly what group of years it came off of? (86/7 88-92 92+ right?) as best I could measure with a digital caliper the lobes go from about 26mm to 30.5, not knowing the rocker ratio I'm not sure how to tell the lift or anything really.

Hard to say as I do not know much of the earlier years but you could always look on ebay at pictures of cams and compare the part number and build code on the cams.

Surprisingly little info on the subject, but I at least found something:
cam duration specs as per ninja250.org:
86-92: 280' duration
93+ 272' duration.

If you can measure the duration, you may have a clue as to the year range.
earlier cams supposedly have better top end, later cams better low-mid.
Hopefully that helps a tiny bit?
