Quick battery tender question

Hey, guys, getting ready to connect battery tender to my bike. Never done it before.

I have battery tender jr.
Just want to make sure, I am not getting ready to do anything stupid.

Take off side covers.
Take off seat.
Put black ring to negative, red to positive. (does the order matter?).
Connect the "quickconnect" cable to the tender.
Plug the tender in.

Right?

Thanks!!!!

It does. Always disconnect the negative side first and connect the negative side last.
This way there is no circuit between your bike's chassis and the positive terminal of the battery.

Disconnect the negative.
Connect red side of the quick connect.
Connect the negative side of the quick connect.

Thanks for reply.

Just to make sure.
1. Completely disconnect negative side on the battery first (from the bike).
2. Connect red side of quick connect.
3. Connect the negative side of the quick connect.

(do I connect the negative back from the bike to the battery?) <-- I am confused. (i am not taking the battery off the bike)

4. Connect to tender and plug in.

Just to be clear. Are you going using this ?

On the CBR600, I have it permanently connected to the battery (Battery is connected to the bike and the quick connect) and feed the connector to the rear passenger seat. When I need to charge it, I pop of the rear seat cover and connect it to the wall transformer. Makes sense?

Dino, yes, thats exactly what I was planning on using.

So is there a certain order that red ring and black ring need to be connected to the battery? red - positive, black - negative.

Still confused about disconnecting negative first. (I understand the order for taking the battery off, but I am leaving the battery on the bike).

Thank you so much.
First bike, doing a lot of stuff for the first time ever

Unhook both cables from battery. Place the red loop under the nut on the positive cable, re-attach to battery. Repeat with black loop & negative cable.

The red usually goes to the fuse box and is distributed from there. The black side is usually connected to the chassis of the bike. For the most part, everything metal on the bike is grounded ( Zero resistance to the negative side of the battery.)

Lets say I decide to take the red side of the battery post off first(Black side still connected). Somehow the wrench I'm using touches the frame of the bike while I'm loosening the connector. Depending on the battery, 100's amps of electricity will travel from the black side through the chassis through the wrench into the red terminal. Usually just some sparks fly but there are stories of people losing fingers if rings (wedding) are involved.

Now, lets say I am disconnecting the black side first. Somehow I touch the wrench to the frame. Nothing happens since the black side is already connected to the frame. After the black side is disconnected, I start to disconnect the red side and the wrench touches the frame of the motorcycle, nothing happens because there is no connection from the frame of the motorcycle to the black terminal.

Thanks, I got it all done yesterday.
Fed the wire through the rear seat, so its easy access now.

Thanks for your help!
