Somewhat related to this thred re helmets....the best explanation I ever heard as to why one should wear a helmet;
Did you ever walk into a door or wall and bang your head ?
You were going maybe 3 mph when you banged it.
Ever think what it would feel like at 30 mph ?

I'm not 100% sure what makes a squid BUT I do know that squids make great art....

Squid 101: Basics on how to squid

Here is your lesson for today

P.S. What is it with squids and gixxers? It's a big thing that makes me not want to get a gixxer when I upgrade. Yes, I know you find squids riding anything, but you find so many on them.

One can't tell if this rider is a squid from this picture. Squid-ism is defined by how the rider operates the bike. A rider in full race gear can be a squid. A naked rider can ride while not being a squid.

Let's not forget that the internet has a lot of information. And some of it is close to being right.

Who cares about the definition for a minute? If you are operating a GSXR without a helmet, you're a moron. Period.

Might as well make it illegal to ride without a helmet so at least the state can make some $$$ off of the dumb people and balance things out.

Squid Definition

So I'm relatively new to this forum and moto forums in general and have heard the term squid thrown around. What exactly does this mean to you individually? I've looked it up and urban dictionary describes a young rider on an overpowered bike without the skill to control it who often wears little to no gear. Well that is easy enough to understand however it seems that certain SAFETY gear is associated with squids as well. I've heard Icon and Joe Rocket are both brands that are squid brands. As well as certain styles like the Icon clown helmets and such.

To me the brand name is irrelevant as well as the styling as long as it is being used that's fine. I think that the style of riding is more of a tell like wheelying on public streets, stoppies and crazy acceleration.

What do you guys think?

The reason those brands are associated with squids is simple. Most of the time when you see someone riding like a complete douchebag and being all kinds of stupid trying to show off how cool they are, they are typically (not always, just more often then not) on a GSXR and wearing bits and pieces of gear from those particular manufacturers if they have anything at all.

For some reason, many of the street racers (the ones thinking that the highways and side roads are really a race track) and street stunters seem to gravitate towards both the GSXR and those brands of gear. It tends to give those brands a bad image to others even if they are a good brand.
